The greenrider was on his lonesome, but he was far from upset about that particular fact. He was, all considered, in a brilliantly good mood, despite the fact that everyone he’d asked to spend the day with him, had had to turn him down for some reason or another. R’nd had, of course, been the first person on his list of people to invite down to the Lake for the afternoon, but the poor bluerider had something wing-practicy going on or. Something; B’jin hadn’t really been paying attention after he’d gotten that sad look from R’nd. His lover couldn’t come, but he wanted to. That was good enough for B’jin and he’d waved off the reasoning with good natured kiss.

B’jin’s assumption that Larrikith would be joining him had been responded to with a surprisingly opposite answer. Apparently, she had promised to spend the day with Grith and the other green had actually remembered. Either that, or she was pulling B’jin’s leg in order to get out of going to the Lake with him. While B’jin wouldn’t have been surprised by Larrikith doing something like that, he wasn’t quite inclined to believe it. They did not get to spend quality time together very often, and particularly not when they were both in such good moods, so the fact that she turned him down had him believing she was being honest. The fact that both Grith and Par’a appeared shortly thereafter to claim the fat little green dragon only confirmed it all and B’jin had sent his dragon off with amused laughter.

He’d been left without a ride, then, but that had been easily rectified! B’jin had bounced over to Valerian’s and asked the younger harper if he were interested in a day at the Lake. Considering the last time they spent time together at the lake (or the river) B’jin wasn’t surprised by the response he got. The request to borrow Veeth in order to relocate his own self there had been followed with fluttering lashes and a sweet smile that B’jin was quite sure had had Valerian puking in his sink once he’d been kicked out of the house. All the same, he’d been allowed to steal Veeth, and that was all that mattered.

Left to his own devices at the Lake, with Veeth returning home, the greenrider (albeit one green dragon short of riding anywhere) was walking aimlessly around the edge of the lake, his steps light and bouncy and, despite the amount of rain bucketing down around him and atop him, B’jin seemed completely oblivious to the dour weather. There was no thunder nor lightning, and while he was definitely soaked to the bone, he wasn’t particularly cold since there was no real breeze to send the cold bite of ice into his blood. It was quite warm, really, and he bounced along without a care in the world, almost skipping.

Naturally, it didn’t take long before the greenrider was singing, words bursting free in upbeat tones, and filling the rainy world around him with sound. B’jin was in a ridiculously good mood, and that was probably a good thing, since his lack of watching where he was going resulted in him stepping right in the middle of a firelizard clutch. Luckily for him, he managed to kick eggs out in every direction rather than smash any of them. Regardless, the wild queen that was responsible for the collection was extremely displeased by the man’s treatment of her nest.

The gold firelizard screeched and dive bombed B’jin, with bronze, brown, blue and green all appearing from the depths of between to assist her in protecting her unborn babies.

B’jin’s song broke off in a startled yelp.

Despite being in the same wing as R’nd, D’hys was down at the lake instead of with his fellow bluerider. That day didn’t have an official practice scheduled but D’hys had heard some of the weaker fliers ask R’nd for private lessons so they wouldn’t hold back the wing as much during their next gathering before T’rel. It was a wise move on their behalf since he was always watching them for their physical prowess to pass along his opinions to their wing’s leadership and D’hys even appreciated not having them come crawling to him for once. His reputation for whipping people into shape had grown since he took on Ravana and managed to improve her in some areas, even if only a little. It was nice to have a day to himself again.

Of course it still wasn’t a day that was dedicated to laziness, despite the rain. That was another thing he liked about the side practice of some of his wing; any weather condition could happen during Threadfall or when emergency flying was needed. It was best to practice in all conditions. It was the same theory he used for his personal training. Running on the beach was always enjoyable since it had a calming quality to it and the promise of a cooling dip afterward but the sand made it harder on the legs, working everything all the more. Jogging in the rain added an extra distraction beating down on him and changed the terrain with each step which also kept his mind sharp and on the lookout for anything that could slip him up or trip him.

While his attention was set mostly before him for that very reason, D’hys still cast glances around his surroundings at times as well since obstacles and hazards could come from any direction. He had caught a light blue dragon land down the beach from him and someone get off and start wandering around but D’hys hadn’t paid much more attention than that; at least until he moved in closer. He thought he heard singing but over the rain it was hard to tell. He did, however, definitely hear a yelp, as did Zeianth who had been lounging under some trees trying to nap. Both turned in the direction of the noise and while the dragon stayed where he was once he saw what was happening, D’hys moved in closer to get a better look.

He wasn’t sure if he was pleased, amused, or annoyed with what he saw.

What was it with greenriders pissing off firelizards and why did it seem to always happen around him? He hated the creatures and wanted nothing to do with them and yet he still managed to intervene every time and use it to his advantage. D’hys wasn’t about to call it an attack of a conscious when he continued jogging towards B’jin since he was still most certainly going to make sure the greenrider repaid him for the assist that would have been so easy to not give and keep on running by. He had chosen to play the nice guy game with B’jin that day after their flight together and it wouldn’t do to change the rules just yet when he hadn’t completely won the man over.

“B’jin!” D’hys gave a courtesy shout of the man’s name so he wouldn’t startle the skittish greenrider into between instead of rescuing him. He reached the scene that was slightly terrifying on more levels than D’hys could sort out right then and tried waving his arms to scare them off. Unsure if that would actually work or not, he gave a mental call for Zeianth to repeat his stunt he had pulled when Shanith and Ravana were covered in the beasts. The icy blue dragon stood, stretched, and headed the few lengths towards them in a less than hurried pace so he could roar at the fair of angry flitters and bare his teeth at them.

Dignity was not something B’jin was displaying in that moment; with his arms flailing above his head in an attempt to keep the firelizards away from him. The greenrider’s hair was sticking up oddly, some strands pulled free from his ponytail, while others were simply mussed up and sticking around his face in rained on tangles, the blonde almost brown from the water. His forearms were streaked in petty scratches, but the gold that came at his face with a screech quickly sent B’jin floundering backwards, to land hard on his arse.

Larrikith! The mental screech was far more angry than anything else, an emotion that didn’t lift when the green dragon peered through his eyes, cackled with amusement, and went back to playing with Grith. B’jin, neither surprised nor pleased, snarled to himself as he managed to finally strike a firelizard, sending a bronze barrelling through the sky and careening into another – it was possibly blue? – With an indignant and outraged screech.

When the attacking and screeching was interrupted by his name, B’jin looked up, arm dropping as brown eyes sought out the source of the voice. Unfortunately, in so doing, he left his face unprotected and the little queen quickly took to exploiting that advantage. B’jin gave another yelp as the firelizard attached herself to his left cheek and made short work of digging the claws in while her tiny maw angled for the greenrider’s terrified eye.

He was saved by the ambling blue dragon, though it took B’jin several moments before he realised the fair was gone, and he was sitting in a murky sand-puddle without attacking claws and teeth of half the rainbow pouring down upon him. A tentative, trembling hand was raised to his left cheek, while his tongue poked gingerly at his bottom lip, which had been torn by a firelizard foot. Bloody fingers were lowered to his thigh, and B’jin wiped them clean even as Larrikith laughed up a storm in his head.

Angry, and incredibly embarrassed, B’jin banished her from his mind and wiped the rest of his face carefully, thankful for the combination of rain, blood and sandy mud to hide the tears that had managed to fall before he got them under control. Being laughed at by Larrikith was not something B’jin ever enjoyed, and looking foolish in front of D’hys (again) didn’t help, but crying would only make that worse. The tell-tale reddening of eyes housing unshed tears was slightly missed by B’jin, who was busy trying to figure out if he’d be better off on his feet, or left in the mud where he was.

He opted for remaining in a pitiful pile in the mud, and just stared up at D’hys without talking. “I hate firelizards,” the pout was terrifyingly childish, as was the pitiful tone of voice he used. Brown eyes dropped from D’hys’ face to look pathetically at his own hands, covered in scratches; light enough to be meaningless, but deep enough to bleed.

Perfect timing, as always, Zeianth. D’hys had no real emotional attachment to B’jin in any way but seeing a pretty face scratched and about to lose an eye was a bit of a downer and the bluerider didn’t want to lose a potential toy because the man was foolish enough to not take better care of himself and ended up blind in one eye or lacking it entirely. A shudder was barely repressed as D’hys almost imagined sleeping with B’jin in such shape. R’nd could definitely keep the greenrider if that was going to be his new state of existence.

As it was, B’jin was looking a bit rough and in need of a little clean up and possibly a bath. Yes, he was definitely the type that thought soaking in a tub of hot water would fix everything. “Me too,” D’hys answered honestly as he finally crouched down to be on the same eye level as B’jin. There wasn’t a need to hide his hatred of the creatures right then, though he wasn’t always that good at doing so to begin with but B’jin had set the standard for the moment and it was pretty clear that after being attacked by a fair of flitters, that it was okay to hate on them. “They’re rather horrible and a nuisance.” All D’hys could think about was Z’ia’s collection and the way one of them – Chastity, perhaps? – kept trying to befriend him and get him to love her while the other evil one kept staring him down. They were definitely horrible little creatures.

Horrible, but not exactly as contagious and dangerous to dragons as D’hys and a large portion of the population had believed. Since dragons hadn’t dropped dead and his own contact with the foul beasts had yet to make him sick either, D’hys wasn’t afraid to be near them anymore but still didn’t encourage them to cozy up in his space. It was why he didn’t cower away from the idea of touching B’jin then, a careful hand reaching out to gently touch the man’s cheek even as he explained that was what he was going to do. D’hys had seen the way B’jin got a little skittish and panicked in certain situations and given his ex-mate was a brownrider that sometimes frequented the same circle as D’hys, he had a good idea as to why.

“The damage is shallow. You should heal without any issues.” His first aid skills were very minimal but D’hys knew enough to tend to scratches and do bindings to help with breaks until a Healer properly set to work on it. The firelizards had been vicious but it didn’t look like anything would scar and nothing needed emergency attention. That was probably a good thing considering B’jin’s eyes were red from crying. No doubt the pampered brat would have a freak out if anything was severely wrong.

Explanation or no, B’jin still flinched when the hand came for his face, brown eyes flashing with fear before he visibly forced himself to relax and not jerk away. D’hys wasn’t hurting him. D’hys wasn’t hurting him. He wasn’t, and the chant was just about written on B’jin’s face as he raised his own hand to brush lightly at his lip again, frowning unhappily. “Yeah,” he murmured, voice a little rough around the edges. He took a deep breath in. It was sighed out a moment later, with a slight relaxing of his shoulders; he was coiled as tightly as ever, though he was doing his best not to freak out.

The sudden realisation that he was literally alone – no dragon, no Weyr, no one – with D’hys and his blue had his shoulders stiffening all over again and B’jin’s breath caught in his throat. Brown eyes, wide with a sudden terror, were darting around without looking at D’hys when he spotted it – the nest. B’jin’s fear was forgotten in a very visible instant as he rocked forward onto his hands and knees and scuttled forward to where the eggs were located and then sat down again, forgetting about D’hys. The expression on his face was unexpectedly malicious.

“Stupid bitch.” Clearly he was speaking of the gold queen, and he flicked a couple of smaller eggs across the sands with little care for what was in them, though he didn’t mistreat them heavily enough to actually break or damage them. It only took him a few moments, before he had settled on what were clearly three of the biggest eggs in the clutch. Turning suddenly, B’jin stared up at D’hys with the same slightly malicious, cold expression. “Which is bigger?”

The hands holding the eggs were extended so D’hys could see what was in them, as B’jin twisted so he could collect his feet under himself and stand up, gaze flickering between eggs and bluerider. Eyebrows lifted expectantly as B’jin frowned when an answer wasn’t immediately forthcoming, the expression forming into a grumpy pout.

One eyebrow slowly lifted as D’hys watched B’jin crawl around the ground. It was as good an invitation as he’d ever seen and the things he could do to the greenrider right then without anyone around to disturb them fluttered around his mind. Nothing was acted on, sadly, since he was still playing nice. If nothing else came out of his kindness, D’hys knew it would always drive R’nd insane and that was worth the time. If he could get B’jin in bed again and break up the happy union solely for entertainment purposes, then that would be a delightful bonus.

The fact they were surrounded by firelizard eggs and the angry bastards guarding them could return any moment helped kill the mood as well.

As did the way B’jin turned to show some of the eggs. D’hys involuntarily took a step back as if he had been slapped or the eggs were about to be thrown at him. Why did he have to keep rescuing greenriders from firelizards? A thoughtful, instead of worried, expression was put in place as D’hys tried to care about the eggs and look at them. He liked the idea B’jin had been going with that involved chucking them around. The Weyr didn’t need more of the creatures roaming around but he’d humour B’jin all the same. “That one,” he said pointing at an egg. It did look a bit bigger than the others which meant it probably held a bronze or a gold. Why B’jin cared about what the contents was after being attacked and then shoving eggs around was beyond the bluerider but lingering around a little longer seemed like the only way he’d get the answer.

“I didn’t know you were in the market for a firelizard, B’jin.” As far as he knew, the greenrider shared his views and didn’t seem the type to suddenly want one.

B’jin dropped the two eggs that had gone unpicked without thought, holding onto the one D’hys had picked out. He ignored the way one egg bounced off the toe of his boot and rolled away – and the way the other one crunched straight into the sand and cracked straight up the side; he was much too busy examining the egg D’hys had picked for him. Then he was glaring in disgust at the bluerider. “Don’t be stupid.” His tone was uncharacteristically snarky and the ghost of a sneer was etched across the greenrider’s face.

“It’s not for me,” he continued, tone mellowing as he held the egg up towards what little sun was shining down, and frowned at the silhouette of the firelizard within it. It looked pretty well developed. Perhaps a day or two before it hatched? It was nice and hard… B’jin lowered the egg and tapped it a couple of times with the tip of his left pointer. A disgruntled squeak came from within it, and the greenrider snorted. “It’s for R’nd.” He gave the egg a shake, and it squeaked again. Well, it was alive!

What are you doing? The green dragon’s question came out of nowhere, and B’jin startled slightly. “None of your business.” He didn’t realise he’d spoken out loud, until the end of his comment and B’jin frowned slightly before huffing. His eyes narrowed as Larrikith attempted to force her way in to use his eye sight, and B’jin’s face scrunched up a little as he quite purposefully (and more than a little spitefully) shoved her back out. “Bugger off, Larri.” A pause. Tell Veeth I’d love another lift. Tell him yourself. The green’s voice was full of disgruntled sneer, and B’jin scowled. “Fuck you.” Don’t be disgusting.

B’jin sneered, and grumbled to himself before he caught sight of D’hys out of the corner of his eye again and B’jin jumped, visibly, and twisted around to blink at the bluerider. He had completely forgotten the man was there. Wide eyes stared at D’hys for several seconds before B’jin’s face lit up suddenly. “Can Zeianth ask Veeth to come and get me, please?” Wide brown eyes glowed up at D’hys.

D’hys wasn’t new to dragonriding and after the first comment aloud B’jin made, he caught on to who it was aimed at. He couldn’t blame B’jin, really. It had to be a nightmare to be bonded to Larrikith, dealing with the fact that she was a green but also a snarky bitch that didn’t always seem to play well with others; including her own rider. Once again he was thankful for his bond to Zeianth. He was a steady and sure dragon that didn’t cause anyone a fuss. Although, D’hys amended with the final comment to Larrikith being spoken, watching others deal with their surly dragons was rather amusing.

He had no intentions of interrupting just yet for that very reason but B’jin seemed to be done with Larrikith and found himself in need of another. A grin took over his mouth as the greenrider flinched upon seeing him and D’hys waited to see what would be said or done following such a reaction since he wasn’t in a hurry and saw no need to encourage a quick response. The request to play messenger was a bit annoying since Zeianth was made for better tasks than that. Yes, because rescuing greens regularly from firelizards is a far better way to spend my time. D’hys gave a light mental laugh at the counter point though he knew the icy dragon didn’t mind assisting greens and actually took a casual liking to some of them.

“Veeth? Larrikith and Ayyonth are currently busy, I take it?” He assumed Larrikith was being spiteful and not coming to get B’jin after the end of the spat he heard and knew R’nd was likely to still be at his appointment but small talk was sometimes needed to help keep skittish greenriders more at ease even if D’hys already had the answers or didn’t care. “No need to bother that little bundle of adorable blue. Zeianth and I would be happy to give you a lift back.” Not only would he earn more points with B’jin, but it’d irritate R’nd even more and that always made for a happier D’hys.

B’jin continued to stare up at D’hys, but as he took his time to come up with an answer, B’jin’s expression changed from bright and hopefully to increasingly wary and distrustful; that had not been a clever move, not at all! He had just told a bluerider he was stranded somewhere, without a ride and had just fought with his dragon. Oh Faranth! He was going to die!

Oh, please, Larrikith snarled. Don’t be so dramatic! You’re such a goldrider!

A shocked expression formed on B’jin’s face, before indignant rage coloured his cheeks red and he glared hotly at nothing, his anger clearly directed at Larrikith. “I am not!” A pause. “What does that make you, you stupid green slut?”

Superior to you, clearly!

B’jin hissed between his teeth, outraged, and clenched his fists, successfully crushing the egg D’hys had picked out for him. He was completely unaware of the little shards that sliced his skin, or the tiny creature that survived his angry reaction, licking  at his hand before she started to slowly curl around his wrist and travel up his arm.

What is that?! – the green dragon’s screech was probably loud enough for the entire Weyr to hear, and B’jin nearly leaped out of his skin as it echoed within his mind, hands jumping up to slap over his ears as he yelped.

“What is wha- GET IT OFF!” B’jin flung out his left arm, throwing it towards D’hys as he caught sight of the absolutely tiny gold monstrosity crawling up his arm with a pitiful mew of hunger and love. Her muzzle was dotted with little smears of blood; B’jin’s from egg shards when he crushed her shell in his hand moments earlier.

“No way. No! No! You take it!” Pulling the little midget gold from his arm with cautious fingers – he really didn’t want firelizard guts on his hands - B’jin made to flick her onto D’hys, only to find her stuck firmly to his fingers. “I don’t want it!” It was a pitiful plea, desperate brown eyes begging D’hys to make it go away. He hated firelizards! He didn’t want one! It was supposed to be for R’nd! It was going to make things better with his lover! But he didn’t want it!

D’hys’ amusement from watching the greenrider fight with his dragon and realize he was alone with a bluerider faded the moment the forgotten egg became centre stage thanks to B’jin shattering it. His gaze dropped to see if he’d have to console the clueless man because he had killed his gift but instead saw exactly how close the eggs they stood near that contained little monsters were close to hatching. He took two small steps back when the gold firelizard was spotted, eyes growing wide with shock and a trace of fear. He didn’t do already bonded flitters on a good day; there was no way he wanted to be near one that hadn’t bonded!

D’hys jumped back when B’jin tried to fling the thing at him. “I don’t think so. I prefer my life clean of those things. I won’t even let Zeianth eat them.” Just because the critters weren’t infecting dragons from being near them, didn’t mean that eating them was safe. The plague could be dormant and once ingested, it could kill again. D’hys wasn’t a fan of that idea.

Suddenly remembering he had food on him as a snack for after his run, D’hys fumbled in the pocket of his pants and produced the chunk of dried meat he had cured himself. He chucked it to the ground closer to B’jin, not wanting anything to do with food or flitters in that moment. It was a waste of fine meat he had spent time learning how to preserve but it was a worthy sacrifice in the end if it kept firelizards away. He knew the beats preferred fresh and raw meat like the dragons but D’hys had also seen the critters eat fruits and pastries. They weren’t picky and he wasn’t risking anything.

“She seems to prefer you anyway.” D’hys would have laughed at the way the gold clung to B’jin but he was still too afraid if the tiny creature and was now trying his best not to show exactly how much she affected him.

“What?” B’jin yelped, flicking his hand again even as he bounced backwards away from the piece of meat that had been thrown at his feet by the bluerider. “Are you fucking stupid? I don’t want it!” What part of that had the other man failed to understand? The bastard was quick enough to back away himself! What made him think B’jin was interested in the gold freak clinging to his arm?!

“I don’t care if she prefers the black of between!” B’jin’s voice was lost somewhere between a snarl and a pitiful whine as he glared hotly at D’hys as if the entire situation were the bluerider’s fault. Well, of course it was the bluerider’s fault! He’d just thrown the fucking dried meat at him, and all B’jin could feel was the desire to eat that meat and pick up the meat and give me the meat, please? Please? I love you, you  love me, don’t you love me? Please feed me? B’jin shook his hand again, as his head exploded suddenly with the sound of Larrikith’s outrage, and the overwhelming wave of spiteful jealousy. B’jin snapped his hands to his head, almost literally afraid his head was about to explode under the pressure of Larrikith’s emotions.

The greenrider’s knees buckled visibly under the mental assault though he remained on his feet as the screeching, raging green dragon appeared in the sky above them, her voice vocal and more than piercing as she told the world her displeasure about B’jin being anywhere near one of those things. Her rage was wordless, but vocal, as she dropped to the sand near the two men and swung out with her foreleg, swiping B’jin over and then pinning him to the ground as the greenrider gawked up. There was a hint of fear, but whether it was because there was a comparably large dragon pinning him to the ground with teeth sneering in his face, or because of the creature’s rage could be debated.

The tiny, tiny gold, which was by that point clinging to B’jin’s ear, crept up over the greenrider’s face, and glared up at Larrikith. Completely ignoring the draogn’s massive size – at least compared to herself, one of the few creatures Larrikith was actually bigger than – the gold’s eyes swirled a hot and angry red, her wings flared and her chest puffed up and she spit angrily at the dragon, then hissed.

B’jin and Larrikith both gawked at the tiny firelizard – the man’s eyes slightly crossed – in shocked silence. Then B’jin bit his lip, before bursting into laughter as he wriggled out from under Larrikith, looking suddenly like he’d been given the biggest gift in the universe as he carefully detangled the tiny firelizard from where she was perched across his nose. The look he shot at Larrikith was malicious and smug. “I think I’ve changed my mind,” he said with a sly smirk, the little firelizard clinging to his finger as he climbed to his feet.

D’hys had been cautiously enjoying the show of B’jin flailing around with the gold firelizard but when Larrikith appeared and let her fury be known, the fun stopped. Several quick steps back away from B’jin were taken. Larrikith may have only been a green but she was still a dragon and she was not in a good mood. There really wasn’t a desire to be caught up in that and D’hys let B’jin deal with her on his own. It was known that dragons didn’t harm humans but D’hys was certain that in her current mood that was likely due to a flitter impressing her rider, exceptions would be made.

Zeianth held his ground, unmoving from where he had ended up sitting to watch the humans discuss eggs and who should keep the little gold. D’hys worked his way over to the icy blue and leaned against him to observe the show from a safe distance. It was amusing to see the tiny green pin B’jin down but it was even better when the firelizard let her opinion be known. D’hys hated the creatures but in that moment, he almost liked that one. The stunned silence that followed her dressing down of Larrikith was beautiful and B’jin’s laughter and sudden change of mind was even better. He knew the green pair had a shaky bond at best but seeing their relationship in action was something else entirely.

“With good reason it seems,” D’hys smirked at the greenrider but didn’t move back into a more appropriate distance for chatting. He liked the new space between him and the gold. He also liked keeping a bit of room between him and Larrikith still since it was hard to say how the green would react again. Now that Larrikith was back, it seemed like a good chance to get out of there all together but D’hys hesitated as he regarded the new trio. Larrikith would likely between them all if B’jin rode her home right then or possibly try to drop them from high up.

“I’m going to offer up a ride back to the Weyr one more time before leaving you in Larrikith’s clutches.” D’hys’ amusement was evident in his voice and he openly wore a smirk. He’d prefer to have B’jin indebted to him again and believing how kind and wonderful he was but while there was a risk of Larrikith being evil, he knew nothing more than B’jin having to walk home would happen. Either way, he’d see the greenrider again another day to harass him.

B’jin shifted his hand slightly, watching as the little gold firelizard curled up in the palm of his hand, her tail twining around his thumb, as he pointedly dismissed Larrikith and wandered a few steps back to where D’hys had run to. The greenrider’s eyes were amused and a smirk was on his own lips as he glanced up at D’hys; it looked simply like he was highly amused by the whole situation that had developed. In truth, however, B’jin was highly entertained by the fact that D’hys had run away from one of Pern’s tiniest dragons. Big scary bluerider, and he ran away from the itty bitty green! To say nothing of the gold snot, Larrikith put in, her tone reeking of venom and the dragon stood back where she’d been left, glaring heatedly at the whole group of them. B’jin literally waved dismissively at her and did not bother to answer.

“Huh?” B’jin blinked at D’hys before frowning as he went over the words the bluerider had spoken. “Oh…” brown eyes shifted from the other rider, to look at the lounging dragon with apprehension. He was huge, and B’jin’s eyebrows drew together even as his eyes widened. He wouldn’t even know how to start climbing up onto Zeianth! “Thanks…” How to get out of it? He glanced back at D’hys, and leaned his weight backwards, though he did not actively retreat. “That’s okay. Larri will take me home. Or Veeth or Ayyonth will come and get me.” They were nice, safe, little dragons and B’jin knew he could climb up onto them, even if they were awkward to ride compared to Larrikith and he didn’t like the lack of bond or the strange differences in their neck ridges and their overall sizes.

He dropped his gaze to the tiny sleeping gold, and watched her breathe quietly as he shifted his weight uncomfortably. He would get on Zeianth if D’hys demanded it, and his body language said that as clearly as it said he really, really did not want to. It would probably piss off Larrikith, which would have been fun if he had not already upset her. Moreover, R’nd would not like it, because for some reason he did not like the other bluerider, though B’jin had not really seen any issues with D’hys and did not understand why R’nd seemed to get uptight when he was brought up, but it would be better not to upset his lover after upsetting his dragon and besides… B’jin was not quite sure how R’nd would react to him having gone and Impressed a firelizard.

Larrikith was mad at him, and R’nd would be upset with him when he got home, and D’hys would probably be upset with him for being rude. Everyone was upset with him! B’jin pouted, and glanced up at D’hys from through his eyelashes, looking for all the world like a child waiting to be scolded for getting into things he’d been told countless times not to touch.

D’hys had grown up around brownriders thanks to the random bonding times with his father and even after the exile, his friends tended to be more in the range of browns than other colours so he knew a bit about the way N’mall had handled B’jin. The look he was currently being given screamed submissive whipped puppy that would obey with one sharp command but D’hys wasn’t sure he wanted to give it. It wasn’t just the game he wanted to keep playing for maximum fun with B’jin’s head and R’nd’s as well but the idea of having the firelizard cozying up to Zeianth did not appeal to him at all.

A friendly smile was slapped into place and D’hys sucked up the courage to move in closer to the golden spawn of evil so he could pat B’jin lightly on the shoulder. “I’ll leave you to her then, my friend. Zeianth will pass on word to Ayyonth and Veeth for you just in case you end up needing them after all.” Mostly, he wanted Ayyonth to let his rider know B’jin had been in his close company again and wait for the new glares to come his way from R’nd. The younger bluerider was so much fun to pick on.

D’hys mounted up and Zeianth inclined his head to B’jin and Larrikith. He could be distant and give off a chilly vibe that matched his ice-patterned hide but most greens and the blues with gentle hearts always earned a bit of kindness out of him. D’hys patted his dragon, always amused by that quirk. So long as it didn’t land them in a situation he wasn’t prepared for, he never put a stop to such affection. “Good luck with R’nd and your shimmering …beauty,” the hesitation on what to refer to the firelizard as was barely acknowledged as D’hys thought quickly on his feet and continued to smile as he spoke. “I’m sure he’ll understand and accept her like you have.”

A salute-like wave was given and Zeianth was taking off to bring them home. As promised, the large blue dragon sent word to Veeth and Ayyonth both so the blues could fight over B’jin or ignore him as they saw fit but B’jin would know regardless that D’hys had upheld the original request and look like the shining star.
