Casa was about ready for another trip to the lake. The last one had been interesting, to say the least; she seemed to meet the best people there, in addition to have grand adventures (she liked swimming with dragons). So when she'd been able, she asked someone for a ride out to the lake. Her father seemed willing to oblige her after she'd help him catch up on his laundry. So she scrubbed and hung out shirts and trousers, and off they'd gone.

Once at the lake, she found it was more empty this time - no obvious rider to bother right away. She didn't mind this too terribly much...that left her some time to poke around, maybe some time to work on more various projects. She'd managed to shove some more rocks into her bag with a snack and a spare pair of clothing. Maybe she'd Impress Quenym and bring home more rocks for their project to be squirreled away. She could just as easily work on more of the other things - necklaces for the pretty girls around the weyr, Flora had seemed to like the one made for her.

Wandering around, she noticed a rock that was higher up along the bank then the others. She scrambled up it with ease, dropping her bag near the flattest part of it. This would be a good area to sun and work. But for now...she stripped down and tied her hair up (it was getting long again!) before prancing right up to the edge of the rock. She glanced down, grinning at the distance to the water, and leaped without another thought. Plunging into the cool water below, she emerged with a loud laugh of joy, shaking her head like a dog and swimming in a lazy circle.

Water.

It was the best word in Z'jan's vocabulary. Or one of them.  Jump was a pretty good word. And sex wasn't too far off, either. Though not exactly sex in the way that he'd been having it lately... Z'jan shook his head to clear it. It was a habit of his, as though what was going on inside was as easy to shake away as a wisp of fog, or a pestering insect. He didn't want to think right now. And the only thing between his legs at the moment that he had to worry about was Ghalath. He glanced down at the dark mottled hide, her short wings flapping brutally against the sky. They hadn't been communicating much lately. And today was no exception. They were both still a bit bruised... perhaps more inside, than out.

Ghalath dropped towards to the lake. Unlike larger dragons, who descended in lazy circles, Ghalath tended simply to fall like a stone. But Z'jan was used it. Already he'd purposefully tangled one foot in the riding straps., giving him the freedom to scratch violently at his hair, as though to punish it for the thoughts going on beneath it. Plus, it just felt good. Why did scratching one's head feel so good anyway?

With a thud, talons digging little trenches in the sand, the green pair came to land by the shore. Z'jan had anticipated a water landing, and the thump into firmer earth caught him unawares. His hands jerked away from his head. But he didn't complain. Neither he nor Ghalath were in the mood to here each others complaints. Not today. Not for a while, maybe.

Curiously, as soon as she let Z'jan off, Ghalath took off again and made for the water. Was she punishing him? Z'jan gave a stiff sigh. It's not like any of it had been his fault. He wasn't the one who decided to whoring about in the sky.  He caught himself. Ghalath wasn't proddy. He didn't have an excuse to be a dick anymore.

Ghalath either ignored or didn't notice the thoughts going on in her riders head. She had thoughts going on in her own head. And so preoccupied were her own thoughts that when she slapped belly first into the water, she nearly did so on top of a small pink person. With an alarmed rumble, she lifted her closer wing awkwardly above the water, so as not to knock the girl under or poke out her eye. But that waves she'd already created were unavoidable.

From the shore, Z'jan looked up. Ghalath's rumble was out of place. He peered towards the water, squinting his eyes against the sun.

As she felt the water press in against her body, reveling in the feeling, it was everything she could want. The water cradled her, holding her in a way that no person could ever match. At least, not that she could imagine. Quenym's gentle arms around her when they fell asleep were close, but not quite the same. She shook her head like a dog, clearing the water from her head and Quenym from her head, at least for the moment. Right now was her time. Soon, there'd be more time with her best friend.

As she let herself float about, she noticed something unusual above the lake - a green dragon. The dragon itself wasn't so unusual, but the way she seemed to be falling right out of the sky was a little...worrisome? She flipped herself over, muscles tensed on the chance the dragon was hurt and she would have to call for someone to come help.

But it seemed the dragon knew exactly what it was doing. She landed with a solid thud, and her rider eased off. Relaxing, she shrugged and turned her back on the pair, fluttering away a distance. It seemed she was destined to have company of riders no matter when she came here. However, she wasn't going to be so nosy this time. Instead, she would wait and see if -

The next thing she knew, a low grumble filled the air, and a huge tower of water came down over her. Thinking fast, she dove down a little ways, holding her breath and paddling with the wall of water, as opposed to against it. When it all seemed to settle, she popped to the surface, dragging in a huge breath. Blinking, she turned around to see what had caused the huge displacement of water. A green dragon appeared to be holding her wing, blinking owlishly at her. She blinked herself awkwardly, a sideways grin on her face. She'd take it as a sign then...she obviously was meant to interact with these two as well.

Adjusting herself towards the green, she swam up near her head, bobbing a polite nod while treading water there. "My apologies," she said with a shrug, glancing from the dragon to shore and back. "If you would like some space to yourself for you and your rider, I can gladly move to another section of lake." She offered another lopsided smile, her eyes gentle and curious as she began to move away slightly.

[ghalath] Sorry[/ghalath]

Z'jan was startled. "For what?" But the answer he got startled him even more. [ghalath] I wasn't talking to you.[/ghalath]

Ghalath was talking... to something else? Someone? Z'jan glanced up towards the sky, but didn't see any other riders or dragons. He furrowed his brows, glaring out over the water. Maybe his dragon has simply lost it. Gone mental. The wandering womb or something.

But no, she wasn't alone... there it was, a pale spot wriggling in the water next to her. Naked? Z'jan couldn't tell. Wasn't sure he wanted to. Not that he had anything against naked. Naked was fine. But he had his own, very different associations for the words 'lake' and 'naked' these days. And they were exactly what he wasn't trying to think about right now.

Ghalath, for her part, continued to bob in the water next to the girl. She wasn't quite sure what to do with herself now. She couldn't take off again, or she'd surely bop the fledgling over the head and cause her to drown and then it would be a bad day for everybody. At the same time, she felt compelled to do something. Though the simple "Sorry" was about all this stranger was going to get out of her verbally. But surely there were plenty of other ways to communicate without talking. Or touching.

Surely.

Unfortunately, that only left "staring" and "maneuvering in close proximity-to" left in Ghalath's social repertoire. The dark green titled her head at the girl's words, looking at her closely. Scrutinizing. She brought her muzzle even closer, though not close enough to touch or be touched in return. Her eyes swirled a yellowish-green, though they slowly began to take on a more turquoise hue.

Z'jan had had about enough of being a lead lion stuck prowling on the shore. He cupped his hands to his mouth, his single-word shout bounding across the otherwise glassy surface of the lake. "HEYSORRY!" He wasn't sure what he was apologizing for, but if Ghalath broke her self imposed silence to speak to a stranger, then it must definitely be something worth apologizing for. When he didn't immediately here an answer, he preemptively pulled his shirt off, then gave it one more go:

"ARE YOU--" ...is who, what? "--GOOD?"

The dragon's simple apology echoed through her mind, and Casa paused, turning back to the pretty mottled green creature. She seemed to be floating there, unsure what to do. Casa shrugged  without much a thought, like she would to anyone else she spent time. This certainly wasn't the first time she'd been around a dragon in water, and she was pretty this came with the territory of "playing with creatures much larger than yourself in water". Or it should be. Because seriously, they were way bigger.

Blinking as she realized her thoughts were derailing, she offered another smile to the dragon. Both of them seemed to be kind of at a loss as to what came next...so far they were just staring at one another and floating in the water. Shrugging again, she splashed water in the dragon's general direction, an offer to play and relax with her. It seemed she was rapidly developing a habit of playing in the water with dragons. Well, if that's what fate had in store, she'd take it. There were much worse fates.

When the garbled yell came her way, she perked up. Heysorry? Huh. That was a new one; she'd have to remember that for the next time she was running from getting caught. Peering around the green dragon, she saw someone - a young man? - on shore, waving his arms around. He slid his shirt off, and she figured he was coming to join them. But then his next phrase confused her.

"Am I...good? What kind of question is that? Is he always this obtuse and confusing?" The words slipped out of her mouth without thinking, and she covered her mouth with her hands in surprise and embarrassment, splashing water at the dragon once again, this time by accident. She glanced from dragon to rider, hoping the green wouldn't take offense as she tried to puzzle out what he wanted. "I'm sorry, I didn't mean to insult him..." Turning, she yelled back with a confused look, "Well, I'm not evil if that's what you mean!"

Ghalath drew her head slightly at the splash, blocking her eyes from the water. It wasn't a startled or angry withdrawal, but rather how a mother feline looks when her kittens start bounding on top of her head. Very much a 'look what I've gotten myself into by having kittens' look. After all, Ghalath didn't play. The girl would have better luck trying to get a herdbeast to dance. Apparently wherries were excellent at knitting, as well.

Ghalath turned her green head towards Z'jan, who was seemingly quite busy acting like a fool back on shore. Though her draconic expression didn't change one bit: 'what have I gotten myself into indeed...'

But hearing the girl's insult/question, Ghalath turned her attention back to the splash-happy fledgling. She enduring the second splash without even a flinch. Instead, she eyed the girl, sizing her up again. As if the first time had proved insufficient. But oddly, the color of her swirling eyes didn't change, but remained a neutral turquoise. The green seemed to give the question due consideration.

[ghalath] yes[/ghalath]

Z'jan, meanwhile, was straining to hear what the girl had said. Ghalath hadn't exactly blocked him out, but she wasn't being very accommodating either.  And perhaps all those years of wind whistling in his ears, or pressure buildup from deep lake dives had damaged his hearing somehow. He blinked confusedly, staring at the pale squiggle near his green.

"NO SHE'S NOT EVIL! I SWEAR!"

Fucking Ghalath. What the hell had she done this time. He tossed his shirt on a rock and stepped out of his pants, leaving his undershorts on for modesty's sake. Then he jogged into the lake, water splashing about his knees, waist... then with a plunge he dove under the chilly surface. Surfaced. Began swimming out towards the epicenter of the unknown fiasco.

Noticing the dragon draw back from the splashes, Casa wrinkled her nose and sighed, pulling her hands away from her face and refraining from further irritating the dragon. Still, when she got the short but honest answer, she couldn't help but grin a little bit, nodding to herself. Well, he couldn't be any worse than Quenym...probably...so that was a relief.

She tilted her head to the side as she heard him yell back, somewhat panicked and worried. Frowning, she glanced between the dragon and the rider, watching him strip down and start to splash out towards them. Finally, maybe she'd actually get to understand what was going on...

As he began to approach, she nodded again towards the dragon, a slight apology as she left, before diving down into the water. The cool, gentle pressure all around her made her shiver in delight. After a moment's pause, she kicked out through the water, swimming towards his slender shape in the water. It didn't take much time at all to meet him near the green's back flank.

Popping up behind him with little warning, she blinked and frowned. "I never said she was evil, you silly wherry headed thing!" Her filter seemed to have turned off when the dragon confirmed his obtusity. "I said I'm not evil. Because, you know, you confused me." Tilting her head to the side and glancing him over, she let herself have a small smirk. He was kinda cute, even when he looked confused. "I'm Casa."

Z'jan, winded though not excessively so, finally reached the place where his green was bobbing. But the other figure was gone. He stopped; tread water. Wait... maybe he was the one going crazy. Ghalath just stared at him."Did you... play a trick on me?" His eyes were wide, a look of bewilderment and disbelief on his face.

But Ghalath didn't have time to answer before Z'jan felt the water move behind him. There was a small splash and suddenly a person was speaking. He started, and whirled around. As fast as one can whirl while treading cold water.

"Shards! You scared the pants off me."

...ignoring the fact that he wasn't technically wearing any.

He listened attentively to the pale, spritely blond. Oh. That made more sense. He glanced over at Ghalath with a slightly apologetic look. But his green wasn't looking back. Now that the girl was far enough away, Ghalath had lowered her wing and was now paddling slowly away from the pair.

Somethings never changed.

"I thought... oh! Ok. I meant good like 'are you doing good?' Not like... evil or good." He cleared his throat. "But yeah... I'm Z'jan! I see you already met Ghalath." He said the final part with slightly raised eyebrows. Surely to Casa Ghalath must have seemed aloof and unfriendly. There's no way she could have appreciated this moment the way Z'jan did. It had been ages since Ghalath had spoken to anyone. For any reason. Not the first time, sure. But it certainly had been awhile.

"But misunderstanding aside, she really isn't evil." He chuckled a little, pushing wet hair back from his face. "And I know you're not evil. An evil person would never say 'silly wherry headed thing'" He grinned, eyes twinkling. "That's strictly the insult of heroes in disguise."

She stared at him for a couple of moments, her attention completely diverted away from the green who seemed to be creeping away slowly. After chewing on her lip, she grinned at him and laughed. "Heroes in disguise, hmm? I like you. You're so clever." She winked at him, stretching back to float for a moment. "Z'jan, hmm? It's a pleasure to meet you, green rider."

She glanced back at the still receding dragon, wondering if she had upset the dragon. "I didn't think for a second that she was evil...she just seems very quiet. Reserved." She shrugged softly. "And that's okay! Some of us aren't social butterflies like others...like me." She thought back to the gentle splashes and frowned. "I hope I didn't scare her off. She seems very nice, even if she is quiet."

Glancing between shore and where they were, she grabbed his hand and began to paddle towards shore. "Come on," she said brightly, a smile on her face. She half paddled, half treaded trying to keep pace with him as they headed back towards the shore. "We can sit and properly get to know one another, without scaring the pants off of one another. I would hate to lose a trust pair of trousers."

Z'jan quirked a brow "Clever? One minute I'm a wherry headed thing and now I'm clever! I like you, too. You're changeable!" He said, as though it were one of the most exciting adjectives he could bestow. And frankly, in his mind, it was. To be changeable! The ability to try new things, think new ideas, not resign oneself to a life of looking at things always the same way...

Z'jan returned her wink with his own. He liked winking. An under appreciated form of communication, he felt. "Reserved is one way to put it, yeah. And butterfly she most definitely is not. But you didn't scare her off, trust me. I've yet to find a way to truly frighten her. She doesn't even flinch when I jump off cliffs."

Z'jan hesitated. That might be too much information... This girl was young and likely impressionable. The last thing he needed was another middle aged woman chasing him down with a broom handle for putting ideas into her daughter's head. He had enough problems with the 'matronly types' as it was, though it mostly had to due with the dining staff. Too much pilfering, probably.

He let the girl have his hand goodnaturedly, but found swimming without it a mite bit difficult. As they got closer to shore, he pulled it away, but only so that he could swim next to her more freely. "You're a sit and talk girl are you?" he said playfully, eyes dancing boyishly. "Shouldn't there be other, more mischievous things you could be getting up to? Though--" he added quickly "--they must of course include pants."

Changeable, was she? She chewed the idea of being changeable over in her head for a moment, thinking of the different ways such a thing might be true. It was certainly true she was always trying new things, and going about poking her nose where it didn't belong. She also was learning to adjust to ideas as they were presented, and she tried to be open minded.

But other parts of her were not so changeable. She had a mischievous streak a mile wide, and she didn't think that would be going anywhere anytime soon. She was also incredibly stubborn, and wouldn't back down on something she believed in. She also tried to be kind as a constant, but that one was hard sometimes...like with bullies. Ugh, bullies.

"Yeah, I guess I am kinda changeable, at least sometimes." A note of pride crept into her voice, and she laughed softly. Changeable. As soon as he mentioned cliffs, she perked back up. "Psh, cliffs! Before you showed up, I jumped off that big rock up there." She pointed to the large boulder behind her, somewhat proud of the achievement. "I mean, its no actual cliff - did you mean an actual cliff? - but it wouldn't be too smart for me to jump from a cliff. There's no way to land safely." She shrugged it off matter-of-factly, but the idea niggled in the back of her mind. Maybe there was a way to do it that she simply hadn't thought of! She'd have to review this new activity later.

As he asked about sitting and talking, she gave him a blunt, appraising sort of look. Other things she should be getting up to? Involving pants? He was probably talking about sex. She still hadn't found the right person to ask for experimentation yet...the idea of sex had come on rather quickly in the last couple of months. She was sure she would find someone patient and willing to teach sooner or later. But it simply hadn't become relevant yet.

"Maybe I like to talk before I go throwing myself at someone," she stated, a blunt grin on her face. "I get into plenty of trouble on my own, I'll have you know. Taking the time to sit down and not get into trouble with the leaders of the weyr once in a while is supposedly good for me."

Z'jan peered to where she was pointing, squinting with exaggeration and putting his hand up to his forehead like a sailor looking for land "That one, really? Waaay up there!" He gave a bit of whistle. "Well, I underestimated you. You're not just a hero in disguise; you're a daredevil in disguise." He swam backwards for a few strokes, glancing at her sideways. Now, about the cliff thing...

"Real cliffs. No. Of course not. That wouldn't work. Not one bit. Nope." Convincing? Hardly. But he'd done the best he could. A quick change in topic was probably his best friend right now. But luckily, any suspicion Casa directed at him was well concealed, and she went on talking. Z'jan let out a breath... and passed it off the merely the exertion of swimming.

"Throwing yourself at someone?" Z'jan was confused. What did that have to do with getting up to trouble with pants on--oohhh. Once again, it seemed he'd been talking about sex... without realizing he was talking about sex. Good job Z'jan. Corrupt the youth.

"Oh! Oh, no, I don't mean you should throw yourself at anyone. Definitely not." He waggled his finger at her good naturedly "Besides, you never can trust them to catch you! That's what dragons are for. And it's never any use to just go falling at people's feet."

As they neared the shore, Z'jan gave up his backward swimming and righted himself, plunging his feet down until they could just touch the lake bed. He hopped on his tip-toes for a few strides, until his feet could more securely touch bottom. "Trouble with the weyr leaders eh? You're quite the rebel!" he looked her over quickly. How old was she? 13? 15? He'd never been good at judging ages, especially in girls. Or women? When did that line get drawn anyway... "You're going to make a fine candidate, I think. You'll keep everyone on their toes, kiddo. No matter what hide you end up flying."

Off the bat, Casa couldn't tell if he was mocking her or making fun of her or not. Her pride stung at some of the comments made, but as she frowned, she figured he was trying to make light banter, not piss her off or tease her for what she claimed. Besides, it wasn't like she could go jumping off real cliffs! Her thoughts wandered back, pondering that thought. It just wasn't possible without a pretty solid guarantee of at least serious injury.

And besides, she had gotten in trouble with the leaders. Maybe not by name, but the pranks she'd considered - and some of the follow through - they definitely had gotten her into severe warning lands. If they had followed through on the moat idea, that probably would have stripped them of Standing rights. And she didn't want to think what would have happened if T'lian had reported her fight.

But for now, she shrugged it off, making a note to see if he continued to tease her like adults did. He seemed to be amusing, just condescending in that adult like way. Tilting her head to the side, she sat there, thinking quietly for a moment.

"What makes you think I'll be a good candidate?" She asked this with a curious tilt of her head, glancing between him and the green. "And once I Impress, what's it like, having a dragon? What's the relationship between a rider and a dragon like? What sort of challenges are likely to come up?"

Oblivious as always, Z'jan had meant every word earnestly. Duplicity required too much planning, something Z'jan wasn't very good at. So he kept his goodnatured smile plastered to his face, completely in the dark as to how a young woman might actually have taken his comments.

The barrage of questions caught him off guard. He'd never been asked that before... any of those things. After all, he was just Z'jan the un-extraordinary greenrider. What did anyone want with his story? But the fact that someone, even just a girl like Casa, was curious about his experience... well. He felt kind of important now--

[ghalath]big head[/ghalath]

--and was instantly deflated. He frowned at his green, but quickly turned it into a smile, for Casa's sake.

"Hm. Well, this right here is a great reason" he said, wading up onto shore and then flopping down just above the waterline. He patted the warm sand next to him, winking conspiratorially. "I'm not much for politics, but a candidate who likes dragons and wants to be around Dragonriders" he left his obvious but unstated mention of the stolen candidates hang in the air "is bound to make a damn good Dragonrider, I think."

"As for impression" he leaned in close, as though barely able to contain a big secret "...it's weird. Good weird, but weird." He grinned. "You don't really realize what it will be like to have another conscious being sharing your thoughts until it happens. It's like someone knocked down a wall to your hut while you were walking around in your underwear. It takes some getting used it."

At this point, easily distracted, he'd forgotten the rest of her questions. Keeping multiple bullet points in his mind was not one of his few many talents. He tended to talk the way he climbed; finding the easiest route to the obvious goal.

"Are you not a candidate, then? I just figured. Most people like you are." Then, realizing the ambiguous nature of the statement. "I mean...you know: young, pretty, dragon friendly girls hanging out by lakes."

[ghalath]...[/ghalath]

Z'jan waited for the snarky comment from his green, but it never came. It seemed even Ghalath had given up on him this time.

Casa hopped good-naturedly up on the sand next to him, comfortably setting to rest on her elbows and look out over the water when the pretty mottled green continued to swim slowly on her own, moving gracefully through the water. She tilted her head to the side while she listened, filing away the notes on Impression with a grin.

After he finished talking, she mentally reached out to the other three to see what they were doing. Kaylee and Edge were lazing on a sunny rooftop, and replied with mild, groggy interest; Knack appeared to be solidly asleep. She called the other two to come play at the lake. Within a blink of the eye, they burst from between, settling around her and eyeing the new friend. However, after rubbing against Casa, they arrowed into the lake, splashing and shrieking in joy.

"I know what it's like to have that wall knocked down," she said with a chuckle. "Those are two of the three firelizards I share my mind with. I know its not the same as with a dragon, who...who...they just seem to KNOW you. But its a good start, I guess."

She took the compliments and found herself almost blushing. Blushing?! She didn't blush! What was this? She hurried on to respond. "I am a candidate, at least now. My best friend, my wing second Quenym, he convinced me to Stand. I'm excited and nervous to be on the Stands; I'm still not sure if its right for me, but I'm going to have to trust the dragons on that."

Z'jan wasn't expecting the sudden appearance of firelizards. While not frightened of them, their appearance had definitely caused him to start. "Oh! Wow. Three of them them? I'd say you're off on the right foot, definitely." He smiled and gave a little chuckle, but creases formed on his brow. Firelizards had always perplexed him. He didn't view them in the same negative light as many of the dragonriders, but he did find the idea of bonding to one curious. Not that they weren't cute. He'd admit that much. But still... what did one do with a firelizard? And what must it be like to have several of them poking around in your mind all the time?

But his thoughts were wondering.

He listened intently to Casa, doing a relatively good job at hiding his smile when she referred to some boy as her 'wing second.' Z'jan didn't have much of a bias towards or against the girls riding greens, golds, whatevers. But for some reason, this comment made him curious. He found himself imagining alternate scenarios. One, where perhaps her and this Quenym grew up to lead the weyr together, gold and bronze. In the other, a passionate green/brown romance, maybe. Or maybe just her on a blue, the two of them standing against the world.

Z'jan blinked. Why was he thinking about these things? His mind wasn't his own today. It wanted to travel. It wasn't functioning in the present, but rather wanted to be everywhere that it wasn't: the future, the past...

"You can always trust the dragons." Z'jan said confidently, coming back to himself. "And if this Quenym has good sense, then sure, you can trust him too."

But Z'jan hesitated. A certain thought was drifting just behind his eyes, trying to pull him away... the thought of what might have happened, had he been asked to stand, instead of stolen. Would he have made the choice? And would it have been the right one? To leave sailing and seacraft forever behind?

He swallowed; faked a comfortable smile. "Just trust yourself, too." He poked the girls' head with his finger. "Make up your own mind." He hesitated.

"Then don't look back."

Casa thought she saw him pause, and wondered what his Impression experience had been like. Had he been excited? Scared? Maybe confident, or nervous. From what she could tell, dragons just knew when someone was meant for them. It was like a spark - you felt it immediately, and it was shocking. But she found that the more she was willing to at least give it a shot, the more she was excited to see if this was the path meant for her.

After all, she loved dragons. They seemed fond of her too. Being in the air was a thrill, not a fear; the connection, the love, was something she craved. The little ones fulfilled that sensation to a degree, but she felt like she was missing out on something even bigger. And the competitive side of her HAD to know. She was so interested in seeing what it might be like.

Besides, all the riders she knew had never regretted Impression, even the Stolen who had fought tooth and nail against it. He was right...if she was going to do this, she had to take that leap of faith, and just got for it. She had to not turn back.

Straightening herself, she nodded resolutely at him. "You are right...I never thought about it like that. I guess a decision like this is something to really commit to." She beamed brightly, leaning back and gazing at him. "You are an interesting person, Z'jan."

Z'jan smiled, raising an eyebrow at the girl. "You know, I'm not sure if anyone's called me interesting before. Crazy, sure. But interesting?"

He shrugged, laying backwards on the sand next to her. The water from their swim was just beginning to dry. Most of the bruises from Ghalath's flight had faded, but he still worried that perhaps she would notice and start asking questions. Z'jan wasn't sure he could handle a 'where babies come from' conversation. And a little part of him was even wondering if he was being indecent: shirtless, in wet undershorts, sprawled next to a girl hardly old enough to stand at a hatching. He probably was. of course, he wasn't trying to be. But the idea of getting up and putting on his clothes merely for modesty's sake seemed annoyingly unnecessary.

Besides, if this girl really was set on riding a dragon some day, whatever the color, she was likely to see a lot more 'immodesty' than a single shirtless dragonrider with a few fading bruises.

Z'jan felt himself getting sleepy. The sun, the sand... talking. The lap of the lake water from the ripples Ghalath was created out in the middle. It was like a siren's lullaby, tempting him to sleep. He blinked frantically, forcing his eyes to focus. How would the poor girl feel if he fell asleep on her? Well, not on her... but...

He needed to move. He wasn't practiced in self reflection; in fact, he found it more tiring than any physical activity. "Say!" he said, throwing her a mischevious grin, "what say we--"

Z'jan paused.
Hm.
He wasn't sure how to end that sentence. Hadn't exactly thought it through. Blundering, he looked over at the splashing firelizards for help. But they ignored him, clearly enjoying their own game. A game.

"Why don't we play a game?"

[ghalath] what game is that, hm?[/ghalath]

I'll wing it.

Casa let herself drowse for the moment, enjoying the combination of warmth on her skin and the coolness of the ground beneath her. This was a good day; another intriguing new friend, another day of relaxation. She found these were the days to be treasured when it was pouring down rain and keeping her inside or when she had a bad day.

Z'jan, however, did not seem content to just rest in the sun. That was okay; Casa didn't mind keeping busy either. Other memories were made that. Glancing over him as he suggested the game, she felt her snarkier side peek out. He wanted to play a game? What did he want to play, pin the greenrider? Or perhaps he was interested in Catch the Dragon. Her eyes lingered on the bruises, but she decided not to comment. She didn't want to make him uncomfortable after all.

"We can play a game," she agreed with a bright smile, standing up and shaking herself off with a slight wiggle. Glancing down, she realized she should probably get dressed, at least if the game involved being out of the water for long. She didn't mind dipping into the lake with nothing on, but the woods were a different experience all together.

"What did you have in mind? I kinda need to know whether I need my clothes or not..." She grinned unabashedly, glancing up to the cliff where her bag sat waiting for her to retrieve it. Worse came to worse, she'd ask Edge and Kaylee to flit up there and grab it for her. That would be easy for the two of them.

[ghalath] she's not a child[/ghalath] Ghalath mused, pinning Z'jan with a faraway gaze.

Z'jan paused, unsure what his dragon meant. He glanced over and up at the now standing Casa. A young girl, sure... but Ghalath was right. Not a child. Not by a long shot. He ran a hand behind his neck foolishly, wondering how much of an ass he'd just made of himself. Let's play a game? What, like fetch? He'd been patronizing without even realizing it.

[ghalath]besides[/ghalath] the green grumbled [ghalath] I don't like games[/ghalath].

You don't have to play... once I think of it. Besides, I've had enough of your games lately...

Z'jan followed Casa's glance up to the nearby cliff, the one she said she'd jumped from. He smiled again, a little to himself. He was impressed with the girl. A lot of girls seemed content enough to stay home and brush their hair, but she was different. And he liked different.

"I'll have Ghalath take us," he said with a smile, ignoring the No that invaded his mind. "We can give you a little riding practice. Not that I'm to be emulated in any way, you understand." He said the last bit with mock-seriousness. With a smile, butt still planted in the sand, he held up his hand.

"Now, if you'll be so kind as to help this old man up--" he grinned. But seriously: sitting down with bruised ribs was one thing, but using his core muscles to stand back up again? Not the best feeling ever.

But she didn't need to know that much. After all, she was just a girl... er... sort of.

A little short I know, but I didn't want to godmode Casa into helping Z'jan up.

Also... is Casa fully naked-naked, or just 'not fully dressed' naked? lol. I assumed the latter, but now I'm not so sure. Z'jan's reactions might be have been a little tempered if she's been running around in the buff this whole time XD.

She was wearing practically nothing, but we can say underthings and thin thin tanktop. :3
She perked up at the thought of practicing riding. Clearly Z'jan thought she must be at least OK rider material if he was willing to show her how to do things. "That sounds wonderful! Can we start with straps? I've never been allowed to help with straps before." She glanced back at the green, wondering how cooperative the silent green would be. She didn't want to upset the dragon in the slightest.

Whistling, she relayed an image to her bag and clothes, and waiting patiently as the green and blue firelizards zipped joyfully up to the rocky ledge. They picked up her things, whipping them about joyously, and she couldn't help but roll her eyes and laugh. At long last, they dropped her possessions neatly in front of her, and she rewarded them both with scritches to the eye ridges.

She took a moment to work her clothing back on, wanting to make sure everything was put on right and not rushed. She'd felt the cold of the air before, and knew that if she didn't layer her clothes or lace her boots, she would regret it once they were up in the air. Finally, she shrugged the backpack onto her should, looking expectantly at Z'jan. This was where adventures came from, and she was quite excited about such an offer.

Z'jan was impressed by Casa's command over her firelizards. He's not spent much time around the little creatures. And he'd definitely never realized how... useful they could be. Maybe he'd have to get one after all. Not that he had any idea how one 'got' a firelizard.

[ghalath] I'm not taking care of it[/ghalath] Ghalath grumbled with typical monotone moodiness [ghalath] and I'm not playing with it [/ghalath]

This time, Z'jan didn't bother to answer. He hadn't really been series anyway. Besides, he's rather focus on Casa's unalterable enthusiasm than his dragons mopey... uh... mopey-ness.

With a curious smile on his lips, Z'jan watched Casa's firelizards flit back. He glanced away politely as she dressed. He could manage that much decorum at least. All the while, he remained planted on the sands, arm outstretched goofily. He hadn't been kidding about that help up. But watching the young woman preparing herself for flight with such gusto, he couldn't bring himself to disrupt her. Instead he just waited, smiling, until she appeared ready to go.

"Sure, we can do straps... though you can't tell anyone how I cheat" he grinned cheekily "I was always awful at straps. Sometimes I don't even bother flying with them." He shrugged, then cleared his throat "Which of course you should never do." he added awkwardly. Just as a disclaimer.

With a pitiful smile, he wiggled his fingers slightly in the air. It was a much more effeminate gesture than he'd intended. "Now... how about a little help up?"

It was becoming more difficult to avoid explaining why he needed help up. But unless he asked, which he hoped she wouldn't, he wasn't about to explain. Sure, he could probably roll over on his belly and then get up on all fours, then to his feet. But he was trying to impress this future candidate. He didn't need her looking at him like he was a dimglow who couldn't figure out how to use his feet.

Casa nodded eagerly, willing to keep their little secret if it meant learning things from people she didn't get to learn otherwise. Trotting over obediently, she grabbed his hand, helping haul him to his feet. She immediately begin to dust sand off of him, like she would any other friend. Maybe he wanted to be covered in sand, but she frankly didn't think it was the best look for him, and she didn't want to get a face full of sand while they were putting on straps or flying. Sand didn't taste great.

"Now...straps...I know mostly what they are for." She felt it should be pretty obvious what they were for, honestly, but some people didn't seem to want to know. Or didn't care. She did, though. "We use them to keep us on dragonback. Kind of an important thing, if you ask me." She offered him a cheeky grin, eyes dancing in delight.

"I don't know much beyond that...leather straps, and you have to repair them." She made a face then. She was NOT a seamstress, and leather was even harder then the linen and stuff that clothing was made from. She didn't want to think about that hurdle of being a rider just yet. Because it would be something she'd had to deal with. Maybe she could bribe someone else to help? Hmm.

"So...what's it like to ride bareback? I promise I won't tell anyone, but it sounds exhilarating. All that air and space and...you must be really brave, I imagine . It'd be scary too. Imagine if you fell." She shuddered softly, shaking her head for a moment. "Anyway, what's it like?" She waited patiently for him so they could start working with straps.
