Helyna.
Helyna tried to ignore the voice for a moment. She just needed a moment. One moment without a grumpy, broody gold in her head.
HELYNA! Kick the greenrider out of your bed and get down here. NOW please. They’re hatching.
“Excellent timing as always.” Swearing, she rested her forehead against Tala’s a moment, then pulled away and slipped off the bed, explaining as she went. “Iliyith says the eggs are hatching. I’ve gotta go; I’m so sorry, love.”
You’re sure they’re actually moving this time? Not like the other day? The nasty mental glower she got in response made her laugh as she pulled on some fresh clothes. I’m sorry for asking, but you had us all in a tizzy and I don’t want to raise a fuss over an egg you nudged with your tail.
Yes, I’m sure. They’re hatching. Get down here, Helyna. Can Niath go tell Rhezalth? I want him here.[/iliyith] Helyna rolled her eyes and sat on the edge of the bed as she braided her hair back. “My delightful dragon wants you and Niath to be glorified firelizards and pop over to Ista to let Rhezalth know. Then maybe you could pick up Vondlyn and join us? Do you mind?” She stole a last kiss, grabbed the letters she’d written to the Weyrleaders at the other Weyrs, and reluctantly hurried out, her mind racing.
Sure enough as she made it to the grounds there were already several eggs rocking slightly. Iliyith’s mood improved immediately as she saw her rider step into the cavern, her posture relaxing. “You do nothing by halves, my dear. Did you tell the others yet?” Helyna rested a hand on the gold’s shoulder, knowing she needed the attention.
I just told Aradissicath while you were getting here. The Weyrleaders should be on their way, and the candidates are being rounded up. Sending the letters off with a nearby weyrling now that she’d confirmed this wasn’t a false alarm, Helyna settled in to wait, hiding her nerves under a smile.
