Children in riding gear were frankly ridiculous, Helyna thought as she stuffed her son into a thick jacket for the quick trip to Telgar. ‘He looks like an obese wherry fattened up for a gather.’ She felt a ripple of amusement from Iliyith at the thought and smiled as she fastened the last toggle and picked the boy up. At least the outfit was good for one thing, she mused--it restricted his range of motion and made it harder for him to squirm or kick loose and make mischief. Though all the padding leant an alarming air of invincibility to the 2-turn-old scamp.
“Sit still or you won’t get to see Auntie Tala today after all,” the goldrider chided, checking their riding straps again. It was a toothless threat, but it worked, by some miracle. He quieted just long enough to take off and wink between, giggling with delight as the cold faded and the watchdragon called a welcome. Iliyith angled towards Tala’s weyr, greeting Niath as she landed delicately on the green’s ledge.
“Good morning, Tala, Ryvala. How are you ladies today?” Helyna slipped down off Iliyith’s neck, stroking the gold’s skin, then lifting Vondlyn down. She helped him off with his jacket and further into the room to see their friends. “Just finishing breakfast?” She stole a piece of fruit off Tala’s plate with a smile, taking a bite and offering the other half to Vondlyn who ignored it in favor of babbling hello to Niath. Rolling her eyes with a smirk of amusement, she finished the bite herself.
