Madiquel barely waited for Xyreith to land, already anxiously undoing the straps that were holding her securely to the big bronze dragon and sliding down his leg while R’nya turned to blink before helping Rhaedalyn. Landing on the ground, Madiquel took a moment to give Xyreith’s leg a gentle pat of thanks before she turned around and grinned happily to herself as she took off across the Weyrbowl. Fluttering around her head, relayed images – Madiquel couldn’t make much sense of them, but got the impression that Xyxyth was in on the surprise.
Following the directions given by her firelizard, Madiquel soon found her way into the Weyr, and through the halls, smiling cheerfully at anyone she saw, but moving swiftly enough that they were aware she was on a mission, and as such, no on interrupted the young woman until she finally arrived outside the Weyrling Barracks. She could have come in from the grounds, but she didn’t want to risk A’tay seeing her before she got to surprise him! Peering around the door frame, Madiquel looked around the common area curiously, bright eyes searching for the familiar features of her friend.
In all honesty, it took Madiquel an embarrassingly long time to spot her friend, and she only managed because Clover flew into the room, and then popped into and out of between so she appeared a small distance before A’tay. Madiquel heard him talking to the firelizard, but it was kind of strange; he sounded different to when she’d last seen him, and she didn’t know why. Maybe it was having a dragon? She knew dragons changed people, and she supposed Xyxyth would be no different. And Ayontay would be learning all kinds of things now, too, and making new friends, and…
Madiquel gave herself a little shake and finally crept into the room, clearly going out of her way to sneak up on A’tay, she was pleased when his companions – after a couple of startled looks and blinking – were careful not to give her away, or at least, A’tay didn’t notice anything (but then, Clover was being a great distraction!) and Madiquel finally made it up behind her friend (when had he gotten so tall?) and quickly but carefully, Madiquel reached up to slip her hands gently over A’tay’s eyes, positively beaming at her success.
“Guess who!”
