M’dox had never thought of himself as an impatient person, and generally he wasn’t. The current moment was an exception. How he managed to finish his laundry without giving up and just kissing T’bia and forgetting about his clothes entirely was a mystery. T’bia talking about his family had helped; it was nice, and it gave M’dox something to focus on while washing his enormous pile of clothes (he even kept some clothes unwashed so it wouldn’t take as much time, though it still felt like forever). Eventually he was sufficiently finished, and he and T’bia parted ways.

It didn’t take him long to get back to his weyr, and M’dox left the basket of laundry at the foot of his bed, deciding to get food first and then deal with putting clothes away. He scurried off to the dining hall, which was starting to fill up for the evening. M’dox grabbed two plates and started filling them with pretty much everything. He knew some of what T’bia liked, but that was mostly snacks, things like pastries, fruit, and cheese, not some of the heavier dinner foods that were out, so he just got a little of as much as he could fit on the plate. There wasn’t enough space left on the plates for dessert, but M’dox managed to wrap up some cookies in a cloth napkin and fit it in one of his pockets. As he was leaving with his piled up plates, one of the ladies setting out the food gave him a knowing look and M’dox nearly tripped and spilled both plates in response. Blushing at both the idea that the woman had certain ideas about what he was up to and about almost tripping and falling with two plates full of food in front of a whole lot of people, M’dox quickly retreated back to his weyr.

Once there he set the plates on his small table and took the bundle of dessert out of his pocket before he crushed them all by accident, putting it beside the plates. Food safely deposited, M’dox fetched the laundry basket from the foot of his bed and started putting the clothes away, moving fairly quickly in case T’bia showed up. M’dox wasn’t really sure how long it would take T’bia to get there, so he wanted to finish putting things away in time.

He needn’t have worried.

All the clothes were put where they belonged and T’bia was not there yet. M’dox felt wired, full of nervous energy that needed to do something, so he got out his water pitcher and some cups, made sure there was proper silverware out, and arranged his little table with the mismatched chairs as nicely as he could. He didn’t think T’bia would mind, really, but it gave him something to do. When he was done he sat down in one of the chairs, but that felt too formal and within a few minutes M’dox was up and pacing. After a few minutes of restlessness, he kicked off his boots and threw himself facedown on his bed. Why was T’bia taking so long? Was he actually taking long or did it just seem long? What if he’d changed his mind and didn’t want to see him anymore, or he’d been too forward inviting him to his room?

Considering he would have been perfectly happy sharing a bath, I don’t think an invitation to your weyr is too forward. Riquarth pointed out dryly. The brown was very proud of his rider, taking the initiative without prompting and inviting T’bia over, and he was perfectly confident that T’bia would be there. His rider was wonderful, why would T’bia not come? The other rider clearly liked M’dox, Riquarth was pretty sure just from watching their interactions, and he had the added bonus of Jycenth confirming it. No, M’dox’s worries were completely unfounded. He will be here, Riquarth reassured M’dox, suffusing their bond with affection, I can always contact Jycenth if you’re really worried, but I don’t think it’s necessary. M’dox shook his head, face smushed into his pillow.

“Nah, don’t ask Jycenth. I don’t want to interrupt his bath.” he said, voice muffled by the pillow though Riquarth could hear him perfectly anyway.

I imagine he’d like if you interrupted his bath. Riquarth said, the picture of innocence. M’dox whined into his pillow, trying to ignore the images his dragon conjured up. Of course, once he started thinking about how sharing a bath might go he couldn't get the thoughts to go away. Not that they were bad thoughts, exactly; some were quite nice actually, they were just…well, M’dox wanted to be able to look at T’bia without only blushing and stammering when the bluerider showed up. Thankfully at that moment there was a knock at the door and M’dox threw himself from the bed to go answer it, doing his best to shove down any images of T’bia in various states of undress before they got him in trouble. He opened the door, suddenly shy again, and let T’bia in with a soft ‘hi,’ smiling nervously at his friend, relief that T’bia had actually shown up palpable.

T’bia took longer in his bath than he probably implied he would. Partly, this was because he was still sulking about Jycenth saying he smelled bad, and he was determined to well and truly remove any such stink from himself. He pointedly ignored any of Jycenth’s apologies until the dragon was also sulking. T’bia could be stubborn like that, sometimes, and Jycenth felt bad for upsetting him when all he’d wanted to do was get his young rider down and into the laundry room with M’dox. He’d just have to be more careful about how he encouraged such meetups in the future.

But more than that, T’bia was caught between being mortified at what he’d implied when he asked M’dox to join him, pouting because M’dox hadn’t joined him, and burning up with heated desire when he thought about how lovely it would have been to have M’dox join him! It wasn’t even that T’bia was imaging the naughty things they could do, so much as he quivered in delight at the idea of the little things, like running soapy hands across M’dox’s back or through his hair… T’bia had spent a lot of time groaning in distress and dunking himself under the water in a lame attempt to clear his thoughts.

T’bia had finally pulled himself free of the bath, dried and dressed in clean clothing and made his way towards M’dox’s weyr. He didn’t hurry, but that was because he was still trying to calm his overactive thoughts; he didn’t want to say something super embarrassing again. It didn’t really occur to T’bia that if he hadn’t blushed like the virgin he was, M’dox might not have thought he implied anything at all. But he had, and that was enough to make T’bia squirm as he stood outside M’dox’s door. He still couldn’t believe what he’d managed to imply by an invitation he had honestly meant with a great deal of innocence. He was such a terrible person! Why did M’dox still want to spend time with him after something like that?

Regardless, when T’bia finally knocked and the door was opened so fast by M’dox, the bluerider met his friend’s eyes and his expression lit up in delight. Bouncing forward as M’dox smiled nervously, T’bia herded M’dox back from the door enough that he could kick it closed before kissing the brownrider; he didn’t want someone to walk past and upset M’dox! That would ruin the fun of kissing! T’bia pressed his body flush against M’dox’s, but his hands didn’t wander, cupping the brownrider’s face gently and letting the kiss linger with gentle affection. Kissing M’dox was so good.

It was with no resistance that M’dox let T’bia direct him back into the room, relieved that his friend shut the door behind him. The idea of someone watching them just made him uncomfortable and M’dox knew that maybe that made him weird among weyrfolk, but he couldn’t help it. M’dox almost melted with fondness when he realized T’bia had already picked up on that and was trying to accommodate for him and his holder idiosyncrasies, and he would have told T’bia so but suddenly T’bia was kissing him and that was more important. T’bia probably understood the appreciation anyway, in the way M’dox kissed him back. As close as T’bia had brought them M’dox wanted to be closer still, wrapping an arm around T’bia’s waist to keep them as close as possible, the other hand going to the back of T’bia’s head to pull him closer there as well. He kept the kiss going as long as possible, until he physically couldn’t go without air any longer and had to break the kiss to let them breathe. M’dox took a few big gulps of air, trying to remind his lungs what air was, before leaning back in to leave a quick kiss on T’bia’s nose, eyes shining.

“I plan to keep doing this,” he started, pressing himself back in close to T’bia, “but I did get us food and I know if we don’t eat it first I’ll keep remembering it and getting distracted and I’d rather be able to just focus on you.” With that M’dox stepped back, moving his hands to take T’bia’s and start pulling him over to the table. Thankfully he knew his own weyr well enough that he could make it to the table backwards, keeping his eyes on T’bia the entire time. He guided T’bia into one of the chairs and started pointing out all the food they had, letting T’bia know he could claim either plate or they could just share both, and that he could pour himself water if he wanted, or M’dox still had the other bottle of wine they could get out. As he finished up his tour of the dinner options M’dox frowned, considering the other chair on the other side of the table. A moment later he grabbed the other chair and dragged it around the table, until it stood beside T’bia’s chair. M’dox’s mouth quirked into a pleased smile.

“There,” he said, sitting in the empty chair, close enough to T’bia that his left leg pressed against T’bia’s right and their shoulders bumped gently, “I like this better.”

T’bia moaned happily against M’dox’s mouth, giving control of the kiss over to his friend and following with delight as the brownrider guided the kiss until breathing was a thing of the past and they finally fell apart reluctantly, T’bia breathing in soft but desperate little pants as he pressed his forehead against M’dox’s, smiling widely and adjusting his stance slightly so he could pepper little kisses along the line of M’dox’s jaw, until he made it to his ear. He was about to nibble on the brownrider’s lobe when M’dox stepped back, talking about food. T’bia blinked.

A deep blush – one of pleasure, not embarrassment – suffused T’bia’s face as M’dox said he wanted to focus on him, on him, and T’bia had to resist the urge to throw himself at his friend and never let him go. He’d never been the focus of someone’s attention like that before, and it made him feel warm and fuzzy and so happy. Wanted. Desired. Needed. T’bia bit his bottom lip as M’dox lead him towards the table, wide blue eyes never leaving M’dox’s brown.

T’bia spent more time watching M’dox with shining eyes than he did paying actual attention to what his friend was pointing at as he spoke. It didn’t matter, food was food and T’bia was far more enchanted by M’dox himself. T’bia watched with quiet affection as M’dox brought the chair around to be beside him, and he shifted enough on his own seat to bring them that little bit closer, the warmth from M’dox was enjoyable and the little shots of fire when they touched coiled in T’bia’s belly and made his breath short.

“Me too,” he whispered, leaning across to rest his head on M’dox’s shoulder for a moment, tipping his head so he could press a kiss to the brownrider’s neck, breath warm and fluttery. He stayed that was for a few moments, before sighing in resignation and giving M’dox a pout. After that, he picked up one of the forks and poked around the plates, picking a roasted tubber out and stabbing it. Lifting the fork to his mouth, he nibbled on the vegetable as he looked around M’dox’s weyr curiously.

T’bia had obviously never been in his friend’s weyr, and he always found it interesting to see how different people made their weyrs into their homes. He liked what M’dox had done; it was bright and comfortable and very M’dox. T’bia was sure he could smell flowers, too, but wasn’t sure if there was a bouquet somewhere he couldn’t see, or if the brownrider had scented items laying around.

The kiss to his neck prompted M’dox to let out a breathy sigh, his eyes shuttering closed for a moment . He wasn’t sure if T’bia had realized yet how much the neck and jawline kisses he gave made M’dox’s heart want to fly out of his chest. He didn’t know if T’bia had noticed how shivery it made him, how much it made him want to say forget the food, let’s do this forever instead. The uneaten food could go to the firelizards (who last he saw were napping on a cushion in Riquarth’s portion of the weyr), so it wouldn’t be a waste. Really, it was lucky T’bia went along with M’dox’s plan so readily and started eating. M’dox kissed him on the temple, as a thank you for agreeing to put off the really, really nice kissing for a bit. Like usual, M’dox had forgotten to eat the right number of proper meals that day and was actually rather hungry. And having his stomach complain while T’bia was kissing him would be embarassing.

He watched T’bia take in his weyr, nibbling on some bread and cheese, wondering what his friend thought of the place. It was surprisingly busy, for someone who’d come to the Weyr with practically nothing and hadn’t been there too long, but he’d endeared himself to some of the women in the store rooms and had gotten a few things from them that had been found when the Weyr reopened. Nothing too exciting, a couple rugs that were falling apart, his mismatched chairs, but it helped fill up the room. He’d also realized that he actually made a decent number of marks as a brownrider, and he could spend them on whatever he wanted, since all his basic life necessities were provided by the Weyr. It’s possible he went a bit overboard for a bit, and he now had plenty of rugs, and bolts of cloth he hung up on the wall, as well as an excessive amount of pillows for the firelizards that always ended up scattered all over the weyr, though he always had at least five on his bed. There was also the growing pile of gifts for his family that he swore he'd actually give them eventually. M'dox wasn't quite self aware enough to realize he kept getting them things out of guilt over not visiting them for four turns.

There was also his small collection of things he’d bought for himself but didn’t have the nerve to do much more than occasionally take them out to look at. After the second one M’dox had given up pretending they were for his sister. He kept a few bottles of floral scented oils there as well, which he’d started hiding better after Frivolity knocked one over and broke it. The weyr still smelled like flowers and it had been a few weeks already.

Eventually neither of them were really eating anymore and M’dox decided they were probably done with food. They had talked a bit during dinner, unimportant things like what they’d been up to that week, but they had slowly fallen into silence. It wasn’t an uncomfortable silence or anything, but M’dox thought it felt heavy, like they were both waiting for someone to do something. He felt almost lighter than usual, and more energized than he should be. M’dox was acutely aware of every point of contact between them, how those points changed when one of them moved a little bit, to adjust the chair, to take a sip of water, and in the quiet that hung in the weyr he wondered if T’bia could hear how his breathing was just a bit faster than usual. In a moment of resolve M’dox decided he’d had enough waiting.

“So,” M’dox said, leaning his head T’bia’s shoulder, unintentionally mirroring T’bia resting on his own shoulder earlier, “you want to continue where we left off?” At the moment the only plan for the evening was ‘kiss T’bia until I pass out from lack of air,’ but he was open to suggestions. Maybe he could get T’bia to kiss his neck again, that was nice. In fact, it gave him an idea. Not waiting for T’bia to respond he turned his head a bit on T’bia’s shoulder, gently bumping his nose against T’bia’s jaw to get him to tilt his head up a bit so he had better access, and started leaving soft, open-mouthed kisses under T’bia’s jaw and along his neck, hoping T’bia enjoyed it as much as he did.

T’bia startled slightly at M’dox’s voice, dropping his fork with a clatter and blushing furiously. He’d been miles away, trying not to think about the warmth of M’dox pressed against his side or how the floral scent was making him think of the picnic they’d gone on so recently and how he’d put a flower behind M’dox’s ear and how soft his friend’s hair had been and how much he really wanted to touch it but he couldn’t because they were supposed to be eating, even though T’bia hadn’t actually put food on his fork for at least fifteen minutes before he dropped it.

“Yes,” T’bia breathed, eyes wide, and heart fluttering as he dipped his head slightly to look at M’dox out of the corner of his eye. He tilted his head as prompted by M’dox’s nuzzling and smiled softly as he dropped his gaze, looking down and suddenly shy. The soft kiss to his neck had T’bia releasing a soft little gasp and he shivered, the tremble rippling down his spine and making the little hairs on the back of his neck stand up. T’bia rolled his shoulders, quivering from the sensation. Not wanting M’dox to get the wrong idea – it had felt nice – T’bia reached out blindly and put his hand on M’dox’s thigh, kneading and pawing gently, puffing out little mews of pleasure as M’dox trailed soft kisses over his skin.

It felt so good!

T’bia enjoyed the kisses for what felt like a long time, but also no time, before righting the tilt of his head; T’bia stopped M’dox for a moment, and – in an uncharacteristic display of (luck) grace – T’bia shifted from sitting beside M’dox, to straddling his lap, wriggling close to his friend and wrapping his arms around him. T’bia felt more than he listened to Jycenth’s worry that the seat wouldn’t hold their combined weight, because T’bia was more focused on claiming M’dox’s mouth with his own, burying his fingers in his friend’s wonderfully soft hair.

While T’bia had gleaned some idea of what M’dox liked when they kissed, he was gentle and much more of a giver than a taker. He would show what he wanted – such as stealing M’dox’s lips for a kiss – before handing over control as soon as M’dox participated. It wasn’t even that he didn’t like being the leader, so much as he enjoyed following M’dox’s lead more. He didn’t want to be in control, unless M’dox really wanted him to be.

When the kiss eventually broke for some much-needed air, T’bia rested his forehead against M’dox’s for a moment, before smiling playfully. “You give the best kisses,” he teased, voice light and airy, as if he had any experience with anyone else’s kisses to call upon.

M’dox figured the little shiver he felt from T’bia was a good reaction, but he stilled when T’bia shifted, unsure if maybe he’d overstepped some boundary. The noises his friend was making, however, and the way he grabbed at M’dox’s thigh seemed to indicate that T’bia was in favor of how things were going. And oh did M’dox like T’bia’s reaction, every sound a pleasant spark, every touch sending a curl of heat through his stomach. He whined when T’bia changed the position of his head, gently forcing M’dox to stop kissing him, but it was quickly replaced by a delighted laugh when he realized what T’bia was doing. It took no time at all for M’dox to adjust to the new seating arrangement, placing a hand flat on the small of T’bia’s back to pull him in as close as possible.

Something M’dox found he appreciated about kissing T’bia was that the bluerider didn’t expect him to do everything (which is rather how his first kissing ‘adventures’ had gone, with M’dox being overwhelmed and expecting the other person to tell him exactly what to do). He had worried, a bit, when he learned he was T’bia’s first kiss, that it would be up to him to decide everything about kissing. Which, M’dox figured he could, if he had to, but he wasn’t that knowledgable about kissing either. And kissing took more than one person, so they should both have a say in what they did. He didn’t want to bore T’bia! Or make him feel like M’dox didn’t care about what he wanted, because that was the opposite of the truth! M’dox cared a lot about what T’bia wanted and liked, and wanted to give whatever that was to him (M’dox just didn’t want to make all the decisions either, and would definitely encourage T’bia to lead sometimes). At the moment, T’bia seemed to be waiting for M’dox to lead the kiss, and M’dox was perfectly content to oblige, leaning up into the kiss and taking the control he was being given.

Even though he didn’t want the kiss to end, M’dox still sighed happily as their mouths broke apart, eyes fluttering closed for a moment as he basked in the warmth the kiss brought to every part of him. “I would say the same of you,” M’dox said, more exhale than proper speech as he took several needed deep breaths. Unlike T’bia he actually had a few previous kisses to compare these to, though he may be slightly biased. If M’dox were to be completely fair to all parties, one or two of the other people he’d kissed were likely technically better at it, from experience or something, but he hadn’t liked kissing those people nearly as much. Which meant that, as far as M’dox was concerned, T’bia did indeed give the best kisses. T’bia may have said it lightly, but M’dox had answered him seriously; he’d never liked kissing anyone as much as he liked kissing T’bia, it had never felt like this before, like he was floating and flying and every part of his body was singing, and T’bia deserved to know.

He ducked his head a little, not exactly embarrassed by telling T’bia how much he liked him, liked kissing him, but perhaps somewhat overwhelmed by the sheer strength of what he was feeling. M’dox didn’t know what to do about how much he liked T’bia, and he almost felt he was drowning in the intensity of it all. With a soft noise M’dox leaned in to tuck his face into the crook of T’bia’s neck, not kissing him again, just breathing him in. He hummed quietly, hoping T’bia didn’t mind him having to take a moment. The hand that wasn’t holding T’bia close moved to rest on the top of the bluerider’s thigh, and M’dox gently rubbed circles there with his thumb, hopefully reassuring T’bia that he wasn’t upset or anything, he just needed an extra few seconds to breathe and process everything a little .

T’bia glowed softly at the praise from M’dox, not taking his breathy words as anything else. He had no idea of M’dox’s history with other people, and honestly – even if the thought were to occur to him – T’bia wouldn’t care. So long as M’dox was happy and comfortable with him, as T’bia found he definitely was with the brownrider, then what did anything else matter? Of course, T’bia had grown up in the wilds of Katila, and he grew up with a blueriding father, so he had had a much more relaxed and open upbringing than he’d ever understand M’dox had had.

As someone who frequently needed to take a few moments because he became overwhelmed, T’bia didn’t blink when M’dox was suddenly burying his face against T’bia’s neck. The young bluerider simply wrapped his arms around his friend and rested his cheek against the side of M’dox’s head, once again, content and comfortable. At least, until M’dox started rubbing his thigh, and T’bia was suddenly aware of not just every point of contact between himself and the brownrider (which was a lot!) but his own arousal, and he blushed crimson against M’dox’s hair, eyebrows furrowing as he tried not to squirm.

T’bia wasn’t embarrassed per-se, but he was afraid of upsetting M’dox or giving the wrong idea, somehow. As if it was improper to respond to their enthusiastic kissing so, well, enthusiastically. Honestly, T’bia found the idea of that incredibly intimidating but it also caused his entire body flush with warmth and tingle in anticipation. T’bia felt safe to be himself with M’dox, like he hadn’t with anyone since getting to know R’nd, and he wanted to explore the world of sex with the brownrider. But he also didn’t want to rush into things, or give M’dox the impression that he was ready to, well, go all the way.

Which he was rather worried his body was going to say to his friend. So T’bia fell back on his tried and the true behaviour; shifting anxiously even as he murmured an absolutely mortified “sorry,” under his breath, refusing to meet M’dox’s eyes T’bia desperately hoped his friend wouldn’t somehow suddenly morph into one of those horrible people that liked to mock the uncomfortable. He didn’t think he would; had trouble actually picturing it. But it was hard to keep focus on the fact that M’dox was nice to him, when he was so awkwardly himself.

The way T’bia put his arms around M’dox and rested against his head honestly helped M’dox steady himself. For one, it was nice, but it was also rather grounding and made him feel safe. He liked it. M’dox stayed where he was, comfortable in the moment, until T’bia started moving and apologized. Confused, M’dox leaned back to get a better look at T’bia.

“What for?” He asked, unsure. Did T’bia think he was upset? Was that why he was apologizing? Was there something else? M’dox wasn’t sure, but a moment later T’bia’s nervous shifting gave him a better idea, as his position change resulted in something pressing against his stomach. Oh. Oh. The realization had M’dox blushing nearly as red as T’bia himself. Well, that answered part of it. But M’dox still wasn’t sure what T’bia was apologizing for. Did he think M’dox wasn’t interested in him like that? Because that was not the impression M’dox was hoping to give at all, because he was, in fact, very interested. M’dox thought he might prefer to wait a little bit, but he was! Or maybe it was T’bia who didn’t want him and he was apologizing for his body showing an interest he didn’t actually have. That was worse, actually, because M’dox figured he could convince T’bia that he was interested in T'bia, but if T’bia didn’t want to have sex with him, M’dox didn’t think he could change that. He wasn’t the type of person to push, he would just nod and never bring it up again. But he wanted T’bia to want him! He liked T’bia!

Very slowly M’dox reached up to put a hand on T’bia’s cheek, and gently turned his friend’s head to look at him better. “T’bia?” He asked quietly, trying very hard not to frown in concern. That would worry T’bia! But M’dox was starting to worry himself, and he wanted to know for sure what T’bia was saying sorry for. If T’bia was worrying that he’d upset him, M’dox could reassure him. If it was something else, well, M’dox wanted to know that too. Especially considering all the shifting around in his lap T’bia was doing was, well, doing things to him, and if T’bia getting hard was a problem for some reason, him getting hard too probably wouldn’t help the situation. This was all so complicated, M’dox thought. He just wanted to kiss the boy he liked and not ruin things!

T’bia cringed when he felt M’dox’s fingers on his cheek, and while he let the brownrider turn his face, he kept his eyes turned down, refusing to look at his friend, his entire face aflame with mortified shame. M’dox was going to think he was awful, he just knew it! His bottom lip trembled and he bit it, hard, to make it stop before cautiously lifting tear flooded eyes to look over M’dox’s shoulder – and not at his friend’s face – when the brownrider spoke his name softly. He’d gone and ruined everything!

Bibi? T’bia flinched again, this time at his dragon’s voice, and his eyes flickered in the direction of the dragons, as if he could see his beloved blue through the rock walls that separated them. His eyebrows furrowed, and his trembling bottom lip was released to form a sad pout. You haven’t looked at him, Jycenth said gently, his soft and melodic voice rippling across T’bia’s mind. How do you know he is upset? Jycenth, of course, knew that M’dox was not – if only because he and Riquarth were running their own behind the scene commentary – but it was important for T’bia to make such realisations for himself.

T’bia lifted his gaze very slowly and cautiously, peering up at M’dox through lashes that were peppered with tears not yet fat enough to fall. He could feel his heart pounding in his throat, so hard he was worried it would make his entire body tremble. Maybe it was? Regardless, T’bia did his best to study M’dox’s face as he stared at his friend, his own eyes wide and fearful, though – as Jycenth pointed out quietly – the brownrider hadn’t thrown him off his lap in disgust.

“I like you,” T’bia whispered, his voice hoarse from both fear and all their kisses, eyebrows furrowed together above his eyes in worry as he continued to stare at M’dox, lifting one hand cautiously to touch the side of his friend’s jaw. “I just. I can’t. You know. And I want to, but I don’t think I can and I think maybe I can’t because I um, haven’t, and I don’t know. But I’m sorry. Please don’t be mad!” The words came out fast, jumbled together and breathless, as T’bia’s face heated up once more, his expression both earnest and terrified.

M’dox’s heart plummeted in his chest as T’bia refused to look at him. Had he done something wrong? He searched T’bia’s face hoping to find a clue, but only noticed the shine of unshed tears. A lump formed in his stomach at the idea that he’d made T’bia cry — again, a nasty voice in his whispered — and M’dox swallowed, fending off tears of his own. He wouldn’t cry, not today, it wouldn’t help. It would just make T’bia sad, which was the opposite of what he wanted. Riquarth crooned softly at him, sending quiet reassurance but allowing M’dox to figure things out on his own. Still, the brown was perfectly happy to help keep M’dox’s anxiety from spiking too high and causing him to shut down, only able to think about everything he’d done wrong and how everyone hated him. No, M’dox never needed to reach that point again, not while Riquarth was around to prevent it.

With Riquarth’s calm bolstering him M’dox managed not to cry or hyperventilate, and waited for T’bia to say something, keeping his hand resting on T’bia’s face, steady but gentle. He watched as T’bia slowly lifted his head to look at him; he wasn't making direct eye contact, but M’dox felt it was more encouraging than avoiding looking at him entirely.

It was only another second or so before T’bia spoke, and his first words had M’dox's breath catching. T’bia had said he’d liked kissing M’dox, both a minute ago and on their picnic, but that was different from T’bia saying he liked him. Which was amazing! T’bia liked him, he’d said it! It would be even better if he hadn’t said it while nearly crying.

The next few phrases were harder for M’dox to figure out, all of them said quite quickly and he got a bit distracted by T’bia touching his face. Riquarth helpfully repeated everything again, a little more slowly, trying to assist without interfering too much. It took a few run throughs of everything for M’dox to manage to mostly pick it apart into fragments he understood. M’dox’s brow furrowed as he tried to piece what T’bia meant together. So, T’bia couldn’t (whatever he meant exactly by ‘can’t’) have sex with him (just right then, or in general?), though he wanted to (M’dox breathed a sigh of relief at that) because he’d never had sex before (which really, M’dox should have realized much earlier, probably when Jycenth said T’bia had never kissed anyone before, as T’bia didn’t really seem the type to have had sex and not have kissed anyone in the process) and he thought M’dox would be mad at him because of it. Probably? That was M’dox’s best interpretation, in any case. Which was rather a lot, actually. Best to start with the important bit.

“I’m not mad at you,” M’dox said softly, brushing his thumb against the corner of T’bia’s eye in an attempt to wipe away any tears collecting there. “I’m not. And I’m not going to ask you to do anything you aren’t comfortable with. When I know you aren’t comfortable with it, I mean, I might ask something if I don’t know, but if you tell me you don’t want to do something, we won’t do it, okay? Even if I want to, and I don’t…” he trailed off a moment, trying to find the words that would properly express what he meant instead of rambling. M’dox took a deep breath, closing his eyes for a moment before slowly starting to speak again.

“I like you a lot, T’bia,” he started again, “and I don’t want to upset you, or hurt you, or anything like that. We don’t have to, uh, have sex yet, not if you don’t feel you’re ready, and I don’t think I am either. I mean, I’d like to, eventually, with you, but it doesn’t have to be today, or next week, or next month, even.” M’dox blushed heavily at that, surprised at how open he was being. Something about T’bia just made M’dox want to make sure he was always happy, and smiling in that way that made him feel like he was made of air. It was a little embarrassing, but it was true! And right then, it seemed to M’dox that T’bia could do with hearing some of it.

“I like spending time with you, talking to you, hearing about your family, or whatever Jycenth said over breakfast. I like kissing you, I like being able to hold you like this. I’m sure I’d like having sex with you too, but that’s not nearly as important as just being with you, T’bia.” M’dox took a deep breath, throat dry and a flush creeping back over his face as he leaned in to press his forehead to T’bia’s. He didn’t know what else to say, and he had already said quite a lot, and M’dox really, really hoped at least some of the words were the right ones. Or at least, not the complete wrong ones.

T’bia’s whole body visibly relaxed when M’dox said r wasn’t angry; but it wasn’t just what e said, but how he said it. He didn’t look angry and e didn’t sound angry, and since T’bia was actually sitting across his thighs, he could even say that M’dox didn’t feel angry! The relief that poured off T’bia was thick.

Leaning his head gently against M’dox’s hand, T’bia’s blush slowly faded and his expression relaxed as he watched M’dox speak, a little frown between his eyebrows as he took in the words given to him. “Okay,” T’bia whispered softly, when M’dox paused to recollect his thoughts. The following information had T’bia’s face lighting up once more, hot and red, but there was a small smile trying to win over his lips.

When M’dox finished, and pressed their foreheads together, T’bia shifted his arms to wrap around the brown rider securely and he shifted enough that he could bring them together for a tight hug, face now buried against the side of M’dox’s neck, breathing him in, each breath slow and steady. T’bia shifted his face slightly, wiping away the remnant of tears against M’dox’s shoulder.

It was several minutes before T’bia leaned back, a genuine if small smile on his lips as he met M’dox’s eyes. “I really like being with you, too,” he said quietly, warmth and affection in his voice. He was pretty sure that, like M’dox, he’d like doing those other things with the brown rider. Eventually!

T’bia leaned forward, catching M’dox’s lips in a gentle kiss, his own quirked just slightly in a relaxed smile.

When T’bia leaned in to hug him M’dox couldn’t help but hug back, though a bit hesitantly. He was still a bit unsure where they stood at the moment. The doubts started evaporating when T’bia smiled at him and said he liked him too, and they completely disappeared when T’bia kissed him.

He kissed back, just as gently. Not a hesitant sort of gentle, like the hug was, but a calmer, more sure sort of gentle. M’dox could feel T’bia’s smile and couldn’t help smiling back. It was okay. They were okay. They had worked it out. T’bia still liked him and they could continue being friends and kissing and everything else. Eventually. With both hands M’dox framed T’bia’s face and continued kissing him after the initial kiss had ended, keeping them soft and slow, and putting as much emotion and affection into the kiss as he could. M’dox wanted to stay like this forever. Or all evening, at least. He could probably convince T’bia to stay and kiss him all evening. M’dox wasn’t going to worry about it just yet, and Riquarth helpfully assisted in gently whisking thoughts of the future aside and letting M’dox focus on the present, existing fully in the kisses.
