742.06.13 | Stingy Healers - Orgailian - 13.Jun.21

He hadn’t Impressed and neither had his siblings. A week later and it was still secretly bothering him. Before this Hatching, Orgailian didn’t think he cared if or when he Impressed but now he had some disappointment and even some fear over it. What if he wasn’t meant for a dragon? Maybe he could survive with that knowledge but what if his siblings weren’t? They had an impressive—pun not intended—collection of shiny dragons amongst them and the ones without were likely starting to feel some sort of pressure. They had to Impress like the others and they needed a gold or bronze as well. Hilariously, Orgailian couldn’t see himself or Zoremet on bronze and Mylorah was a fifty-fifty shot for gold.

He had to let it go. At least for himself. He could still feel the attitude beneath the fear about not caring if he Impressed or if it took years still. He did things on his own time and in his own way. If it happened, it happened and he would be proud of any colour. But his siblings deserved it and maybe he could use the next Touching as a way to encourage the dragons to pick them and not him. He laughed at the thought, knowing how silly it was. Besides, what would he do with the gold egg? Not like he could Touch it and he couldn’t just yell across the clutch at it to pick Mylorah.

That idea wasn’t the only thing that was silly. His obsession was as well. It wasn’t helping anyone and it only stressed him out for no reason. Again he reminded himself there wasn’t a rush. He wasn’t even twenty yet! There was a lot of time for all of them and a lot of time to do other things. Truthfully, as he thought about things he couldn’t do as a weyrling, Orgailian started to be thankful for the delay in Impressing.

One thing he could do was read more books to help Zelana with her odd goal of healing with cooking and plants. Given the poisonings lately and how she was a victim herself, maybe it wasn’t that odd. But there was one place neither of them had thought to look yet and that was with the Healers. The little collection of books Benden Weyr had held some interesting finds but not what they were looking for. He didn’t know why they hadn’t thought to ask the healers for things before and was on his way to the infirmary to do just that. As he wandered, Orgailian felt like Zelana had mentioned she tried asking one some questions but she was rudely turned away. Would they part with books long enough to let him take notes? Maybe he’d have to flirt and charm his way into getting what he wanted. His father was R’nd after all and he might as well embrace it if needed.

Several minutes later and Orgailian was scowling as he stomped out of the infirmary and stood outside the entrance. The healer was down for a little one on one examination but he wasn’t going to share his notes. Why? What was the big deal if someone wanted to know how to balance poisons or what plants would fix a headache or whatever? Healers were clearly just assholes. "Stingy assholes," he muttered.

He'd try again another time.
