The Weyrwoman had decided to leave the Sands via a different route for once, and the stranger almost let out a sigh of relief as patience was finally rewarded. Going into her weyr had been a poor choice with her mate hovering anxiously nearby, but her time on the sands was usually a solitary event. So the Sands, or rather her route to and from, was the best place to strike from, so long as she stayed out of the private tunnel that led directly to the Weyrwoman's quarters. For now she was taking a different way, and the stranger stalked along quietly until their paths intersected.
Last time the stranger had lingered too long, had stopped to double check and things had gone poorly, this time the strike would be swift, with no lingering about. Just a quick and clean slip of a blade between ribs.
At least that had been the plan. The stranger had darted in, but at the last minute a flash of brightly coloured wings filled his eyes and his blade went off target. It still sank into flesh (though he was unsure if he'd hit the woman or one of the firelizards), and he struck out again with a low pitched growl before the feel of a different blade sank into his arm.
The stranger was not going to stay for more of that. He kicked out to clear some space between himself and the Weyrwoman, swung at another flitter to get it away before sprinting off and disappearing down twisting corridors.
