742.02.15 | A Little Light - Zahrah - 15.Feb.21

Zahrah had meant to give the second lamp to Erebuth and had packed it in her satchel to do just that Impression or not. She also meant to stop by and see B'kit, who she didn't know but had done a commission for a lamp for Erebuth some time ago. So, here she was, the lamp covered in a towel, a basket of glows, and a smaller lamp for B'kit that cast soothing colours in her pocket as she sat on the end of her bed.

Sedath, ever curious, came with her, padding along as regally as possible, her little chin tipped officiously. Her tail flicked this way and that as she found Erebuth's mind. It went elsewhere too but the little gold didn't seem to mind. Her squint went deep enough her eyes were almost closed, though.

I am Sedath, Zahrah's lifemate, Sedath said. May we ask yours to come visit?

Zahrath had told her lifemate to be as gentle as possible but her voice was still fairly loud. They'd work on it, though. Like her manners, which they'd been working on since the second Impression was made, it was going to be a challenge.

RE: 742.02.15 | A Little Light - B'kit - 16.Feb.21

He’d been napping when the young gold’s message came through, waking him up. Half the weyr nearby probably heard it too, but Erebuth could tell the message was meant for him and for B’kit. B’kit, Sedath asks if you will come visit Zahrah in the weyrling barracks.

Kitt looked up from the harness he was mending, curiosity piqued. “Tell them I’d be happy to. Re, do you mind if one of the others flies me down? It will be faster than trying to walk all that way.” The blue grumbled slightly, but relented if it was Semath or Siolilth who took him. A few trusted others had been allowed to ferry his rider around while the blue healed, but he wasn’t thrilled about it.

B’kit will be down shortly, Sedath of Zarhrah. I would come greet you as well but I can’t fly. Congratulations on finding your rider, Erebuth told the young gold politely. Kitt grabbed a jacket and his warmest gloves, then mooched a ride down to the barracks—after promising to also use the chance to exercise lightly with a walk. He greeted a few friends as he passed, but many of them were stealing naps or busy with needy dragonets, so it didn’t take long to reach the gold pair. “Zahrah? It’s a pleasure to meet you and Sedath. Congratulations on your Impression.”

Sedath squinted a little harder, concentrating.

You are welcome! And thank you, we are very happy! I hope you can fly, soon. She wasn't sure the squinting helped but it was what it was.

"Ah, hello B'kit, and thank you! I remember we did a lamp for your Erebuth some time ago and, well... I wanted to gift you something else since I was experimenting with something a little new."

Sedath dipped her head in a nod of acknowledgement Zahrah uncovered the basket to reveal a lovely little glass and clay luminary that had all sorts of pretty colours. When lit, there were little stars that would project light from the star-shaped holes onto the floor and ceiling.

"I thought Erebuth might enjoy this lamp. And this one's for you."

She pulled another smaller one from her pocket. It was just a little handheld one with a place to stick some glows. When it was lit it would project a warm glow so B'kit could see properly at night and get to him lifemate safely.

It is important not to trip. This way, if you are going to trip, you might as well see it coming. Though, perhaps it would make you not trip. Lights are good for that.

B’kit smiled, remembering what it was like to have a dragonet who didn’t quite have a handle on projecting yet. At least she wasn’t as loud as Dyoricath had been. Thank you.

As Zahrah uncovered the lamp, he stepped over to see it more closely, sitting next to her. “You’re the one who made that one? Thank you so much--Erebuth loved it when Vessa gave it to him and insisted someone bring it over from Ista when we knew we were going to be stuck here a while.” He picked up the new lamp, admiring it. “This is lovely--I’m sure he’ll treasure it as well.”

He set it carefully back into the basket and took the smaller one, turning it over in his hands. “You do amazing work, Zahrah. I’m so grateful you thought of us.” The star lamp would be perfect for their weyr. They had so many around he didn’t need to worry too much about tripping, but the smaller one would still come in handy. “They are indeed. I am careful not to trip,” he told the young gold, “but a little extra light is always good.

Good. Tripping is undignified and should be avoided, Sedath said, squinting up at B'kit knowingly. Light always helps these things.

"Ah, yes, I did make it, thank you. My daughter has been wanting a big one for a while, so I made one for her birthday. I thought of Erebuth and you around the same time, so I just made another while I was at it. I was worried when I heard of your accident. It looks like you're on the mend, though, that's lovely to see. I would have come to see you myself but I seem to have attached myself to a dragon."

It is called Impression and I did it to you and then we did it to each other. It was mutual. I think. The gold's tail swished this way and that. And very necessary.

If she could have squinted any harder, she probably would have. Zahrah rubbed her lifemate's eyeridges and tried not to laugh but let out a snerk anyway.

"Yes, I know what it's called, love. I was being facetious." There was a pause as her dragon's multifaceted eyes opened in surprise and then she squinted really hard up at her rider.

...how dare you. You jest about such an important thing! Augh. Oh. For shame. And then she curled into a dragonet sized ball and hid herself with a wing.

What horror, what melodrama.

"We'll...have to revisit that at another time, I suppose," Zahrah said dryly. "She does like to be proper about everything."

I am still here, you know. I am just hiding from your stupid 'funny' business. Carry on.
