Bard for the Win - Meryem - 15.Feb.21

Author's Note: The journal is encrypted, so one would need a key in order to figure out what it says. Merry decided no one gets to read her journal but herself, so the whole thing is written in a code only she knows.

Suck it, Father.

Being dissatisfied with my lot in life, I threw out the pages of last turn. You know, the irritated writings of a banished Harper. And have resolved to better keep my thoughts ordered this turn, not that they're anything like last turn's.

The important part is Malvayth and Yanth's clutch seems to have hatched without death and too much mayhem. I should think everyone was going on about the angry brown who flipped his lid at a bunch of boys and Impressed a lad called V'lis. There were some happy greens, one is going to have the largest wings probably in the whole of Fort Weyr -- she kept getting them caught as she went about. She Impressed to a lovely redhead, Aederyn, a Fortian favourite.

The queen, young Sedath, I thought was just going to sit in her egg until she expired but really, she just wanted her lifemate to come get her. She's stunning in very lemoy yellows, a very bright coloured gold. I find it amusing that she told her lifemate Zahrah, the only woman willing to go up and get the gold, to announce her.

That one is going to be a rough ride through Weyrlinghood, not to mention when she Rises. I sense willfulness there the likes to rival my own. I was surprised about the gold egg since Yanth, the sire, is brown, but it looked like her Flight must have been long enough just for that egg. I really look forward to seeing how they progress as a junior Weyrwoman. I was pretty sure Zahrah was curbing some sort of rudeness when I was walking by to leave the sands. She's already got a daughter, Zarel, and looks to have a fiancé as well. Her life must be incredibly full and now with a dragon even fuller, though she won't get much chance for family during Weyrlinghood.

I suppose that depends on young Sedath's willingness to share. Hm.

Oh, yes. N'lis, formerly Quinvilis, Impressed. He was mauled quite badly on the Sands but he braved them for this hatching, didn't he? Congratulations to him and his courage to stand his ground to Impress his blue. I can't imagine how hard it must have been to not bolt the second that angry brown started toward the Candidates. But good for him!

I'm going to stick around for a bit longer today and leave tomorrow morning. I hear Erebuth of B'kit might need a Harper, so I'll visit with him and bring my guitar.

Telgar Weyr

Home again. No one missed me that I can tell. As if they would. I haven't many friends among the Telgarian population at this point. I keep my head down, do my work, prepare lessons, etc. Teach. I don't think I'm suited for teaching, to be quite honest. Not every Harper is. I enjoy the complexity of fixing and making instruments much better though it's not exactly conducive to lessening the lonely part of me at the moment.

I should probably do something about that, after all, I'm much less of an angry person out of the Hall. It might be nice to see about making some friends. I've been here long enough to get comfortable in my own skin. I hope Journeyman Leeri is doing alright, I haven't heard from him in a while. I'm sure he has things handled, whatever he's up to doing out there. Je'ler, too, making sure the wine runs free for Pern.

In the interim of friendlessness, I've been composing again. Nothing fancy, just music for music's sake. Sometimes, I wish I could have been assigned somewhere with an ocean's roar but alas. Not to be and never will unless my father dies. He's got all the strings, unfortunately. I could go on forever about how much he hates me and I dislike him. We're oil and water with the unfortunate connection of being blood-related. I don't think he'll ever forgive me for being female.

I suppose I'll never forgive him for being angry at me every day of his life. It's not the way I would have chosen to come out, thank you. I need to make a fire in this hearth and try and get warm again.
