742.02.14 | Filled With Pride - R'nya - 13.Feb.21

R’nya barely waited for the little gold and her new partner to begin the trek to get fed before he was squeezing Rhaedalyn’s hand and kissing her cheek quickly, his eyes bright with joy, and he slipped into the crowd to make his way over to the young dragonriders to be. He figured she’d follow him, at some point, but would probably do her duty (which he was ignoring) by greeting the new goldrider first. R’nya would worry about protocol after he’d congratulated his son.

Striding quietly up beside N’lis, R’nya waited until the dragonet had a face full of food before gently turning the young man to face him, wrapping his arms around him and hugging tightly for a moment, dropping a subtle kiss to N’lis’ forehead. “I am so proud of you, my boy,” R’nya said quietly, gently releasing N’lis so he could tend his dragon and so that R’nya wouldn’t upset the little blue with too much close contact. But also to let N’lis patch together whatever pride R’nya had embarrassed with his affection.

“What is your mate’s name?” R’nya asked gently, resisting the urge to hug N’lis again, or poke at the dragonet – he’d never seen anything like this clutch! All of them with their golden bellies – it was so unique and so eye-catching. He wondered if they’d keep it with their adult hides, or if it was just some weird quirk of their Hatching. R’nya crouched down, balancing carefully, and extended a hand in greeting to the tiny blue dragon. “Hello. You have made a most wonderful choice of lifemate.” He told him seriously, smiling slightly.

RE: 742.02.14 | Filled With Pride - Qu'va - 13.Feb.21

N’lis was still overwhelmed by everything that had happened since the blue eating beside him hatched. First up was the name. He honestly had never thought about what his honorific would be if he was ever lucky enough to Impress. It was hard to make something that rolled off the tongue nicely. Qu’is? Qui’lis? Q’lis? Dalsuth did well by thinking outside of the box N’lis was clearly stuck in. It was strange all the same and would take a lot of getting used to and—

He was spun around and barely saw who was doing it before R’nya pulled him into a hug. He instantly returned it, arms wrapping tightly around the bronzerider he secretly viewed as his dad. The statement left him rattled and N’lis didn’t trust himself to speak without bursting into tears again and only nodded to show he heard R’nya. That was something else that had slowly started to sink in as the minutes ticked by. It was hard to miss Dalsuth’s colour was blue but N’lis feared anything other than bronze would be considered a disappointment. Maybe the excitement of Impressing was too distracting and the Weyrleader would eventually realise that.

“Dalsuth,” N’lis replied softly, still spinning and trying to catch up to everything that was happening. It was all so fast! Like his dragon had been when he raced toward him. He wasn’t sure he’d ever get over that moment.

Of course I did, Dalsuth replied as he lifted his head from the feeding bucket. He eyed the man crouching before him for a long moment but then decided he posed no threat to either of them and seemed like a good guy. He butted the outstretched hand with the top of his head—shifting last second to avoid doing it with his nose so the man didn’t get dirty.

“This is Weyrleader R’nya of…” N’lis took a moment to look around until he spotted Xyreith and pointed him out to Dalsuth. “Bronze Xyreith. They’re in charge but also really nice.” He didn’t know if Dalsuth already instinctively knew who was in charge or not but he felt proper introductions were in order.

Dalsuth glanced up to Xyreith, giving the larger dragon a chirp that probably went unheard given the distance and noise in the cavern to begin with, and went back to studying R’nya with his head tilted to the side. Does that mean you make boring rules and we have to follow them? He was still picking through N’lis’ mind about what rules were exactly but they sounded like they sucked.

RE: 742.02.14 | Filled With Pride - R'nya - 13.Feb.21

R’nya enjoyed the tone of young Dalsuth’s voice, and smiled at the little dragon as he agreed with his statement. Glancing up at N’lis, R’nya’s smile widened into a slightly mischievous grin at the general obviousness of his son being overwhelmed. R’nya could still remember those emotions from when he had Impressed Xyreith a lifetime ago. R’nya’s smile twitched with amusement at his and Xyreith being called ‘really nice’, since he had heard a lot of other opinions on that but he didn’t say anything until the little blue looked at him so seriously. His question caused a laugh to burst free from R’nya and he smirked playfully at the dragonet.

“Unfortunately that would be me.” He said, laughter on his voice and in his pale eyes, which were bright and dancing with his amusement. “I am also responsible for disciplining those that break the rules,” R’nya said quietly, “though I am sure you and Quin—sorry, N’lis – will not need to worry about that,” he was smiling, and winked up at N’lis as he spoke to the dragonet. N’lis had never been any trouble at all, and R’nya was quite sure that even if his dragonet was spirited and wild, he would be able to control the creature enough to keep them out of trouble, if only because N’lis was so worried about everything all the time.

Standing up when the dragonet seemed content for the moment, R’nya wrapped his arm around N’lis’ shoulders and gave him another tight – if sideways – hug. “Where is your mother?” He asked, not letting go as he turned his head towards the area he had seen Quilriana in earlier. No doubt the woman was weaving through the crowds somewhere, and R’nya beamed at her when he spotted her coming, dragging her companion along behind her. No wonder it had taken her until then to reach them. Still grinning, R’nya let go of N’lis so his mother could wrap her arms around him.

RE: 742.02.14 | Filled With Pride - Quilriana - 13.Feb.21

Quilriana knew she wasn’t actually dragging Gangleri along, that he was just as excited to get to her son as she was, but it still felt that way. She held tightly to his hand as she weaved around people and he did a decent job of keeping pace with her. She supposed a determined mother whether for good or horrible news was a force and she debated slowing down but she had to see her baby. Gangleri could deal with a little more punishment. She’d already apologised for the death grip earlier but she had warned him it would happen!

When she reached her destination, Gangleri was forgotten as she threw her arms around Quinvalis and hugged him tightly. It was good to see her boy again and hug him in general but she had been so scared for him and the relief to have him whole in her arms was almost too much and she worried her knees would buckle. “Congratulations! I’m so proud of you for Standing again and proud that my son is a dragonrider. Look at his gorgeous hide!”

Quilriana turned her attention to the dragonet and smiled wider when her son introduced Dalsuth to her and shared his honorific. He seemed hesitant, maybe embarrassed, and she took N’lis’ hand in hers. She didn’t see why he would worry over the name, other than just being naturally inclined to worrying, but then the pieces connected. Her portion of his name had been erased. “It’s a good name. A strong name. Dalsuth chose it well.” Besides, it’d be rather hard to make a decent name with a Q. In her defence, she was naming the heir to a farm, not a future dragonrider.

“And this is Harper Gangleri. I’ve mentioned him in some of the letters but he’s one of my favourite patrons and has become a good friend.” Quilriana added that part in for R’nya’s benefit before returning the favour and introducing him to Gangleri. That task done, her attention went back to her son and how happy—if overwhelmed—he was and just watched him as he exchanged buckets and bent down to start cleaning up some more of his dragon. His dragon! She was bursting with pride.

RE: 742.02.14 | Filled With Pride - L'ri - 13.Feb.21

It had certainly been quite the swing in emotions, much like a ship pitching in very rough seas. First there'd been angry brown, then a bit of relief, then the initial terror as they'd watched the little blue charge, then the relief and joy as it just turned into a playful little bit of bonding. Gangleri had sat there through all of that trying to support Quilriana as best he could, so he was not about to stop just because she was dragging him along through a crowd.

The Harper grinned as he got a closer look at the baby, marveling at how it was so much tinier than a grown dragon! "He is a very handsome lad, should suit you just fine. And it is a pleasure to meet all of you." He shook hands where appropriate, risked a friendly pat on her son's back, and peered curiously at the little dragon. It seemed friendly enough, and he knelt down to get a slightly better look at it, not quite so bold as to stick his hand out to a dragon. Gangleri didn't have that sort of experience after all. He did however like music and art and he marveled over the colors. "Such a vibrant color. Hopefully you stay just as bright when you grow. Do you like songs?"

He glanced up at N'lis curiously. "Do they even know what songs are when they're this young?" Gangleri turned back to Dalsuth, grinning from all the excitement buzzing in the air. "I think I could make a fun song about you and your grand entrance into the world."

RE: 742.02.14 | Filled With Pride - Qu'va - 14.Feb.21

N’lis couldn’t fight the tears as his mom appeared and he hugged her tightly while trying to hide that he was crying. She’d brought someone that he suspected was the Harper she’d mentioned before and didn’t want to seem completely pathetic or foolish to him. He did his best to compose himself and quickly turned his attention to Dalsuth, still worried that he was dreaming.

Dalsuth glanced down at his front legs and then at his outstretched wings as if taking in his own appearance for the first time when the new human mentioned his colouring. I am rather pretty, aren’t I? Dalsuth commented, not meaning to be arrogant but just surprised at the lovely colours he displayed. And then he lost his balance while trying to see further back and landed in an undignified heap once more.

N’lis bit his lip, not wanting to grin at his dragon’s antics and helped him right himself again. It was amazing how the absolute fear of a small blue dragonet he had just hours ago was completely gone now that he had Dalsuth. He wasn’t afraid to get close to the claws that resembled the ones that had sliced him up and he only laughed when a wing accidentally slapped against him when Dalsuth regained his footing.

Before he could answer Gangleri’s question, the little blue considered N’lis and then the Harper, I do. The bigger dragons were humming when I hatched and it was very lovely. Dalsuth gave humming a shot, pleased that it came to him naturally. N’lis would have been surprised that he knew the concept of songs and music but hatchlings were still smart creatures in their own right and he’d been thinking about music as soon as Gangleri brought it up so Dalsuth likely easily latched onto the thought and learned.

I think I would like a fun song. And we can dance to it, Dalsuth added looking up at N’lis, eyes whirling with excitement. Dancing seemed very much like zooming around the place but just more isolated to one spot. Still, he could do that!

RE: 742.02.14 | Filled With Pride - R'nya - 14.Feb.21

R’nya was slightly disgruntled by his own jealousy of the man Quilriana had brought along, but did an excellent job of hiding both the jealousy and his own irritation at it. The relief when Gangleri was introduced as a friend was also irritating. Certainly they had never promised to be exclusive – R’nya had a mate in Rhaedalyn after all! – but he was still possessive apparently. Annoying. R’nya gave a nod to the Harper as they were introduced, but his attention was more focused on watching N’lis struggle through the whole event.

A soft chuckle escaped as Dalsuth commented on his own prettiness, and R’nya’s eyes sparkled as he watched the dragonet tumble over into a pile in the sand. He smothered a smile, not wanting to upset the creature, but he was both adorable and a funny little thing. Oh this little dragon was going to be a handful, R’nya could tell, as he was suddenly talking about dancing. Shaking his head in amusement, R’nya reached out to Xyreith; his dragon was bored with everything, had a headache from the loudness of the dragonets, and just wanted to go back to sleep. R’nya was still thrumming with too much pride for N’lis to let the negative emotions of his dragon bother him.

“N’lis and Dalsuth will be under the Weyrlingmaster’s watchful tuition for the next twelve months.” R’nya said, turning his attention to Quilriana and Gangleri, “After graduation he will be able to transfer Weyrs if he wishes, and visit you whenever he is free.” The last part was said to Quilriana with a small, soft smile and a wink. Turning back to N’lis, R’nya gave his shoulder a gentle squeeze. “I will let you two finish up here and with your mother. You have done exceptionally well, N’lis. You should be proud of yourself, and your mate.”

Taking his hand back, R’nya nodded at the Harper and smiled gently at Quilriana before leaving the little group, making his way through the other Weyrlings and congratulating each of them as he made his way over to Cazan and Rhaedalyn, giving the younger goldrider a serious look before congratulating her and her dragon on an excellent Hatching; overall it had gone very well, and Malvayth did well after the tragedy that was the Touching.

RE: 742.02.14 | Filled With Pride - L'ri - 15.Feb.21

Such a fascinating little creature! Gangleri grinned at Dalsuth, resisting the urge to try and reach out and help when he had a tumble. It seemed important to let Quil's son have his moment with his new companion, otherwise the Weyrleader would probably be helping. And speaking of the man, he had noticed how friendly the two of them seemed to be, and how close he seemed to be to her boy. If that was the rider she was seeing then she clearly had some fancy taste. It made sense though, Quilriana was a dark goddess of sorts and she deserved to have such fine company. So long as that company treated her well.

That was a concern for another time though, right now was for celebrating and Gangleri was thrilled when the little blue began to hum, and he couldn't help but laugh at the mention of dancing. He straightened back up. "I look forward to seeing you dance sometime. I am sorry I did not think to bring any instruments with me or I would play something for you now, but I imagine it is a bit too crowded for that anyway. I'll have to make it up to you later."

Gangleri waited until the Weyrleader left before he turned to wrap his arm around Quil in a sidelong hug, absolutely ecstatic for the woman and her boy. "I'm glad you managed to get your dragon, N'lis. I'm not sure if I could have survived taking your mother to another Hatching. I need my hands to work."
