Since moving to Benden, it seemed like Helyna hardly had a moment just for herself. First the move had consumed her time, and getting Vondlyn settled. Then N’mor and his mate had pushed for more time with the boy which rattled her for some reason; Faranth knew she wasn’t much of a mother to the child, though she’d gotten better.
She was also keeping busy with various projects for friends and gifts for the weyrleaders ahead of Turn’s end. Finally, at her wits end, and needing a break, she’d sent a message over to Tala, begging her to spend an evening together. No children and no distractions.
Turning in bed and seeing her partner’s sleeping face teased out a rare genuine smile. They’d had quite an evening indeed. She kissed the greenrider’s forehead, then lightly kissed her cheeks and closed eyes, feeling more than seeing the smile on Tala’s lips. Helyna lingered, hovering just beyond her lips as Tala, pretending to still be asleep, tried to get Helyna to kiss her and made the most amusing little sound of frustration when the goldrider still didn’t. Only when those eyes opened did she close the gap with a kiss, soft and teasing at first, then hungry as Tala responded. “Mmn, good morning to you too,” she said when they finally broke apart.
