740.02.28 | Afternoon Sunshine - V'ra - 02.Mar.19

Indivara woke with a lazy slowness, blinking her eyes open as she reached out blindly to where Val was almost always found in the morning. A pout formed when her wandering hand found nothing but smooth bedsheets, and she turned over with a yawn. The other side of the bed was empty, and Indivara mewed softly as she spread out, star fishing over the bed and stretching, enjoying the fact that she once more had full range of movement without pain or a nasty belly full of baby.

Where is Val? She asked Venseth lazily, sitting up and brushing her long hair out of her face as she peered around their bedroom. It didn’t look like he’d made it to bed, though it was hard to tell. Indivara moved around a lot at night, and so there wasn’t any way to see if Val had actually been in the bed, but she also didn’t see his neat pile of clothing that usually was set aside when he changed between bedclothes and day clothes.

Not with us, Indivara smiled as her dragon replied, his voice mild but affectionate and she realized he was with Veeth, eating. She couldn’t tell immediately where they were, but wasn’t worried. They knew where they were allowed to hunt, and where they weren’t; they were good dragons and Venseth would keep Veeth out of trouble – a fact that would never cease to amuse Indivara.

Slipping out of the bed, Indivara pulled on some clothing, a mix and match of her own and Val’s, and padded quietly out into the main room, thinking that she’d like a nice fresh mug of klah to warm her belly. She was quite sick of winter, and looking forward to all the snow melting and the sun actually shining with some warmth again. While Indivara didn’t really miss the humid and hot heat of Katila, she did miss not feeling like her toes were going to freeze and fall off if she stepped on the stone floor by accident.

Making her way into the kitchenette, Indivara set the kettle to one side, filling it with water from the jug and lighting the fire in the small cooking pit that was set to one side. Picking out her favourite mug, Indivara swung the kettle over the slowly growing flames and left it to heat and made her way back into the main room, intent on seeing if Val had left her a note about what he was up to that day when she spotted him. Indivara paused, biting back a laugh as she took in the scene of her lover.

“Oh, Val,” endearing as the sight of him sleeping awkwardly on the desk was, Indivara knew he wasn’t always happy with himself when he fell asleep like that. Smiling softly, Indivara made her way to her mate and gently touched his shoulder. “Val?” Voice soft, Indivara gave his shoulder a squeeze, before running her fingers slowly up his neck and threading them through his hair softly.

RE: 740.02.28 | Afternoon Sunshine - V'ler - 02.Apr.19

V'ler woke from the shiver that ran up his spine as he felt something on his shoulder, then neck, then head. He was close to swatting at it, thinking it was one of the firelizards harassing him for some reason when everything came further into focus and he could tell it was a hand on his head. Oh and that he was sleeping awkwardly at his desk. Again. He sighed at the blurry image of seeing his work up way too close. A flick of his gaze to the ink pot earned another sigh, but one in relief, as he saw his quill sitting in it. That meant he hadn't fallen asleep while actually writing and there wouldn't be a mess of ink anywhere on the page. Right, he had been reading over documents the Weyrleader wanted a trained Harper's eye to review before they were sent off to the various recipients. They were as fascinating as watching mud dry and perhaps he really should stop leaving them as bedtime reading material.

"Sorry," he mumbled as he straightened, groaning as his back let him know its opinion on the way he had fallen asleep. His right arm wasn't too pleased either as his head came away from it and he tried to move it only to be greeted with a horrible case of pins and needles that insisted he leave his arm right where it was until further notice.

He hated sleeping at his desk. For one thing, his back, arm, and sometimes neck ended up stiff and sore, sometimes all day. Another thing? It made him seem like a workaholic that didn't do anything other than sit in his chair and write this or that all day and night. It wasn't too far from the truth at times, but he did do other things and in other locations. Thanks to recent--well, not all that recent anymore, really-- developments, it also meant Indivara slept alone and he kind of felt like a dick when that happened.

Since the hand that had been in his hair was soothing and not trying to make him bald, V'ler felt a bit of relief with the assumption she wasn't mad it happened again. Truthfully, he suspected this habit bothered him more than it did her. "What time is it?" He was almost afraid to ask, knowing how late he often stayed up and remembered Veeth murmuring something about the sun rising soon. Indivara had stayed up a bit that night but not nearly as late as he had so he had no way of gauging the actual time by her being awake. Besides, she could have been up for hours and only now that he should wake as well.

As Val sat up, creaking like an old weaver the whole way, Indivara smirked to herself, her fingers moving from his hair to play gently over his shoulders in a faux massage; Indivara didn’t know how to actually massage and had no true desire to learn, she just enjoyed touching her mate and he never actively complained when she poked and prodded at his tight muscles so she never thought to stop or change her ways. “Late,” her smile was in her voice and Indivara leaned forward to press a kiss to the nape of Val’s neck. “About midday, I think.” She didn’t care enough to look outside and see, but the image she’d shared with Venseth had shown the sun was high in the sky.

“You should read those in bed,” she said, her amusement back once more. “At least then when you fall asleep you’ll be somewhat comfortable.” Plus she would have her bedmate back to cling to. Sometimes Indivara enjoyed having the bed to herself, so she could spread out and claim all the mattress and snuggle into the blankets. But mostly she enjoyed gluing herself to Val so he could keep her warm. How he felt about it all, was, of course, moot, especially since if he didn’t like it, he would have kicked her out many turns ago.

“What has you so enthralled this time, anyway?” Not really waiting for an answer, Indivara picked up one of the sheets and frowned at it, not bothering to read enough to get a good idea of what the document was crapping on about, but enough to get a good gist of why Val had fallen asleep while doing whatever he was doing with it. “Faranth. They should give this shit to the crèche workers. Put the brats to sleep.” Or the workers. Either way, someone would be sleeping!

V'ler snorted softly in amusement over Indivara's complete distaste and disinterest in the papers. He wasn't worried about her reading them--he wouldn't have brought them home otherwise--and knew she wouldn't share anything that did stick out to her. "They aren't too bad when you're alert and in the mood to read such things. Clearly, last night I was neither." Or, more accurately, early that morning. He really did need to work on his bed times.

"But I like your idea. I think I'll start reading you these things as bed time stories to help settle you down." Was he implying she was one of the brats in the creche because of her height? Absolutely. Their relationship was built on barbs and teasing and it persisted still; though V'ler knew he not only had no room to talk given his own short stature but that Indivara would toss something back at him, possibly even her first.

That didn't mean he would give her an opening though. His grin from the teasing melted away as he moved into asking a favour. Given his playful insulting, Indivara would no doubt be inclined to deny him but the serious nature of it would likely still her tongue. "Also, can Queenie watch Quill and Vex after dinner? I have to talk to an ex-rider and he can't handle even firelizards around him and while they usually listen, she's great for keeping them in line." He hadn't grown up around dragons but had been a rider for nine years. The thought of losing Veeth and continuing on with a void in his heart and head didn't seem possible to him anymore no matter the fact that he managed just fine before Veeth came along.

"But that's later and I have a free afternoon," V'ler smiled at Indivara as he took her hand to pull her closer, intent on distracting them both from thinking about depressing things like being dragonless.

RE: 740.02.28 | Afternoon Sunshine - V'ra - 12.Jul.19

Indivara’s lips quirked into a small smirk at Val, before he followed it up with a quip and Indivara huffed, giving his hair a yank that bordered on the side of ‘too rough’, but didn’t quite cross it. Releasing the dark strands, Indivara continued running her fingers through his hair and over Val’s scalp. Threat? Apology? Indivara smiled to herself.

Eyebrows lifted curiously when Val turned to asking her for a favour, and Indivara considered him in puzzlement before he explained. Her features shifted just slightly, the playfulness of the moments before leaking away and being replaced with the hollow fear of what it would be like to be dragonless. A shudder travelled her spine, but she nodded once, firmly, and gave Val a sad little smile. “Of course.” Her lips twitched into a little smirk. It would be a great opportunity to teach the little blues some tricks that would annoy Val!

“Do you, now?” Indivara murmured quietly, her features coy as she let Val pull her to him, standing between his knees, she linked her hands gently behind his neck, playing softly with the short hairs there. With him sitting, she was just a tiny bit taller than him, and she leaned down to press a gentle kiss to Val’s lips, drawing back just enough that it broke the kiss and no more. “Unfortunately…” she said, sighing and watching the play of emotions on Val’s face, feeling a thrill when she saw disappointment. She loved him so much it hurt, but was still ridiculously insecure about his loving her in return.

“Mm,” she paused, a smile blooming across her lips and sparkling new life into her blue eyes. “Looks like I’m free now.”

RE: 740.02.28 | Afternoon Sunshine - V'ler - 13.Jul.19

"Are you now?" V'ler smirked, stealing her turn of phrase of seconds ago. There had been a moment of disappointment when it seemed like Indivara would be busy--she did have a class of troublesome weyrlings in her care-- but it passed quick enough.

"Good thing, otherwise you may have missed my apology for not making it to bed again last night." It wasn't a nightly habit and he never thought much about doing it in the past but now that they had their feelings out in the open, guilt sometimes nipped at his ass. He knew how much Indivara liked curling up against him while they slept and he robbed her of that.

He drew her in for a kiss, slow but intent still clear. They weren't the most physical of couples outside of Indivara's love of cuddling and definitely didn't have sex as often as their friends so such gestures were easily picked up on and, so far, never turned down.

RE: 740.02.28 | Afternoon Sunshine - V'ra - 20.Jul.19

“That would have been a great tragedy,” Indivara murmured, amused, but no less endeared. Val — even before emotions got tangled up in their arrangement — was a much needed safety blanket for Indivara. He kept the nightmares at bay, if not entirely absent; he also kept her warm, since she tended to run cold (when she wasn’t actively fighting the flu, or one of the many other illnesses she was prone to) and she found their snuggled sleeping habits incredibly relaxing and reassuring. His bed was protection, and safety, and comfort and even kept the monsters like landslides away from her.

When he drew her in for a kiss, Indivara melted into Val, her fingers twining into his hair and her small body warming from the heat that pooled in her belly outwards, at his gentle invitation. Indivara smiled into the kiss, breathing out a soft quip against his lips even as she let him lead them. Indivara loved having sex with Val, almost as much as she loved the man himself. He was sweet, and gentle, and made her feel ridiculously beautiful in a way she’d genuinely never gotten from anyone — or anywhere — else. She used to enjoy the thrill that came with flight mothing, but she hadn’t done that since before Venseth, and even when her wonderful blue decided to chase, if he didn’t win, Indivara had no issues pulling the lusty scraps of herself together and slinking off to the baths.

Indivara only enjoyed flight-lust-inspired sex when Val was also hopped up on dragon emotions, otherwise it just made Indivara feel icky and she always avoided coming home right after losing, and almost always left Val alone to look after himself when Veeth lost (as he was prone to doing), assuming her mate didn’t blow off some steam with a fellow loser. Despite all Indivara’s insecurities, and all her raging jealousies, she herself was bewildered by how little she cared about Val getting an itch scratched post-flight. Non-flight involvement would have been a totally different clutch of firelizards, but for all Indivara’s insecurities about him not loving her as much as she loved him, she didn’t think she’d pissed him off that much.

Drawing back slightly as Val carried her to the bedroom, her legs hooked around his waist, her ankles crossed and her arms looped around his neck — he knew well what would happen if he dropped her — Indivara smiled at Val with a delicate softness that was for him alone. “I love you,” she said gently, kissing him on the tip of his nose.
