739.03.14 | A Casual Stroll - Tala - 22.Mar.18

That afternoon had been cleared of any chores or obligations, so Tala had wrapped Ryvala up in a shawl, tied it around her chest to carry her easier, and set out from the creche into the Weyr bowl. She intended to take a leisurely walk down to the lake and back, give Ryvala some sun and air. The weather had been warm and clear of rain for the past week, and the day looked to be no different, so Tala had no worries about getting herself and her baby rained on.

Within twenty minutes Ryvala had fallen asleep, rocked by the movement of Tala walking and the warmth of the sun. Tala smiled fondly at her and continued walking. She hadn't been planning on Ryvala, and had been a bit disappointed at having to step down as a Candidate for a while, but ultimately she was worth it. And, with any luck, Tala wouldn't be in the Candidate barracks for much longer and her daughter could move in with her instead of living in the creche full time. Well, after she graduated from being a weyrling, but still. The sooner she Impressed, the sooner she could keep Ryvala with her.

After a while she reached the lakeside. Sitting down on the sand a few feet from the water Tala carefully unwrapped the shawl holding Ryvala against her and sat the girl down on her lap. Thankfully, she'd managed to keep from waking her. Tala gazed out over the water, twirling a lock of hair around a finger in thought. It would be much easier to reach the lake on dragonback, but Tala in many ways preferred walking; She was pretty sure she'd always have to fly there once she had a dragon, but maybe whoever she Impressed would be amenable to her walking. Or not. Tala smiled, thinking of all the dragons she knew. Delorianth would have put up with it but snarked and complained constantly. Most of the others would have outright refused. Maybe she'd get lucky, and whatever hatchling that was destined for her would understand why she liked walking so much. Or maybe she'd fall in love with flying. Who knew?

Lost in thought about her future dragon, Tala sat by the lake idly stroking her daughter's hair for a good hour before she was finally interrupted.

RE: 739.03.14 | A Casual Stroll - Naya - 07.May.18

This afternoon was a different one, for Naya was assigned a whole lot of chores that would usually be carried out by both she and her mother. But that fall back at home had resulted in her being bed-ridden while her leg healed, and thus Naya found herself shouldering the full load of the errands and responsibilities, especially the ones that could not afford the luxury of waiting, and after a full busy morning of preparations of getting the Weyr’s supply of bread and pastries out and ready for the public, she finally had the afternoon to do the washing of the all laundry that had accumulated over the last several days. After announcing to her mother that she would be at her favourite spot by the lake, Naya took her basket piled with laundry and headed to the lake.

When she approached her favourite spot, she happened to see another woman there who was cradling a young baby in her arms. Getting down beside her, she started to sort out the different pieces of clothings before she bothered to disturb the woman who seemed to be in a trance of her own. “That’s a nice child you have there. How old?" As she asked, Naya started on her washing not bothering to wait for the other woman’s reply before she started. She had plenty of clothes to wash, and if she didn’t get back soon, all the chores would continue to pile up.

RE: 739.03.14 | A Casual Stroll - Tala - 09.May.18

Tala started at the unexpected voice, so lost in her own thought she hadn’t seen the other woman approach. “What? Oh, hello.” She said, taking a moment to register the question. “She’s almost a turn old. Her birthday is in just over a week.” Tala said, smiling down at Ryvala. All the women said the first turn of life was the hardest for babies, and their chances of reaching adulthood were much better once they’d reached that first birthday. Tala was grateful nothing had happened and Vala had made it this far.

She turned her attention from her child to the woman who’d joined her by the lake, frowning at her thoughtfully. Tala could swear she knew the woman, but couldn’t recall her name. They’d definitely both been in Katila, had probably even played together as children, but the name… There were so many weyrbrats from Katila, Tala could hardly keep track of them all.

“You’re a Candidate, right?” She asked, watching as the other women began to do her laundry. “I think I’ve seen you in the classes before.”
