General Details
Firelizards – the creature that are credited with the creation of the dragons, were once (and are becoming once more) a particularly popular pet. Small, of mid-range intelligence, and trainable if one is willing to put in the time, the firelizards can be both a great nuisance and a wonderful companion.
Firelizards come in the same colours as the dragons, for the most obvious of reasons; like the dragons, the female firelizards are green and gold, while the males are blue, brown and bronze. Unlike their dragon cousins, both female firelizards are capable of producing a clutch, though greens in particular are lax mothers and terrible at picking a safe location to lay their eggs. Furthermore, unlike their larger counterparts, firelizards do not vary all that much in size – they almost all sit around the 12 to 15 inches in length (30 to 40 centimetres) from nose to tail tip. At Hatching, a firelizard is about 5 inches long (10 centimetres) and come from an emu sized egg. Size Example with Chicken Egg
While green firelizards are notorious for laying their usually small clutches in the most bizarre of locations, and generally where something can eat or destroy them, the gold firelizards are more inclined to pick hidden alcoves where their eggs will reach maturity and hatch without issue. Gold firelizards are also inclined to abandon their Bonded human to keep their clutch safe for the duration of the maturing of their eggs before they Hatch.
In the wild, greens tend to abandon their clutches while a gold will keep the entire fair she’s bonded to intent upon the upkeep and protection of the eggs, as well as feeding the Hatchlings to bond them to the fair. What green offspring do manage to Hatch tend to turn cannibal, devouring their clutchmates before fleeing to live a solo life, unless or until they can join an established fair.
Where wild firelizards bond to the fair that feeds them, humans have been able to get firelizards to Bond to themselves by providing the food an infant requires upon Hatching. Unlike the dragon, which choses their bonded and bonds for life, the firelizard will bond to whomever shoves enough food down its tiny throat, and the bond will only last as long as the relationship is positive between firelizard and human; someone who abuses their firelizard will find themselves abandoned.

Reproduction
Firelizards reach sexual maturity at about six months of age, give or take depending on the firelizard in question, though they are not considered physically mature until they reach one turn. Firelizard flights do not have any effect on their human bonded, unlike dragon flights, which makes them safe pets for children to bond to.
The gestation of the firelizard is one and a half months carrying the eggs, and two and a half weeks on the sands. Gold firelizards usually lay about 10 eggs, while a green will lay no more than five.

Firelizards and the Plague
It is strongly believed by many of the Pernese population that firelizards were the first carriers of the Plague, and ultimately responsible for the downfall of the dragons and their riders. As a result of this, the reintroduction of the firelizards varied greatly between individuals, though most of the dragonriders (and ex-riders) felt negatively, while young individuals (such as Weyrbrats born in Katila) saw the firelizards as wonderful and delightful.
Despite the initial shock of the rediscovery of the firelizards, the little creatures were quick to make themselves at home with and bond to humans once more. The abundance of the firelizards in the South meant that they were easy to find once the Katilan’s knew where to look, and Impressing a firelizard became a stepping stone for Candidates who were after a dragonet. Since then, it has become a part of Candidacy to Impress a firelizard.

Character Bonds and Rules
While a single character may bond up to three total firelizards, they may have no more than one gold firelizard. Characters are limited to a single gold firelizard due to the fact that the golds are particularly territorial and will not share their bonded with another gold firelizard. Attempting to bond a second gold firelizard will have the former either kill the hatchling, or abandon their human.
A character with a firelizard should have a brief blurb, such as color/name/a short personality within the "Known" section of the profile for each firelizard they possess.
A Player is allowed to create one firelizard per Character upon joining - green, blue and brown are the available colours (no more than 3 'free' browns). All other firelizards must be purchased from the Store. A Player may kill off and Impress firelizards that belong to their character as they desire, with no wait times or requirements. They simply need to purchase a new firelizard from the Store and update their records and profiles where applicable.
While there are no actual rules about duplicating firelizard names, it is considered impolite to do so without talking to the other Player. Firelizards listed below with an * are NPCs and their name can be used without contacting the other Player.
