Ista Isle is amused by the weaklings of Benden, but at least their heat is dry. Benden is muggy and riddled with heavy thunderstorms and downpours.

Ista is heating up swiftly, and preparing for a rough summer - hopefully nothing like the one from a couple turns before with the wildfires! The rest of Northern Pern is warming upsomewhat slower, but with no less gusto as summer begins to creep into the sky, keeping the sun awake longer, warming the ledges of the weyrs. Rainstorms are sporadic, but keep the world well watered, despite the heat of the days.

The Red Star can be seen by those who choose to see it, causing no shortage of whispers that Thread will return - and just as much dismissal from those who do not believe. After all, it's been so long, surely it is no longer a threat! Weyrleaders are, regardless, beginning to put together wings in their Weyrs, if only to keep troublesome and bored riders busy.

Month 12, 740 AL

Fort Boundaries:
Winter -3 - 2 C | 26 - 35 F
Fort is already home to snowfalls, though early in the month they fade away when the sun rises. As the month progresses, more snow stays on the ground, ending up with several feet of snow before the month is over. The areas around homes and populations has the snow shoveled away or trodden down. Icicles attached to Weyr ledges prove some danger and are routinely removed.

Ista Boundaries:
Winter, 9 - 21 C | 48 - 69 F
Generally warm enough to go about without a jacket on, Ista has low humidity but high chance of rain, generally in the form of vicious afternoon thunderstorms. The storms wash away any bite of heat the day had, and leave it feeling fresh for the night. The days are short, but grow bright quickly and the afternoons seem to be particularly short when heavy thunderstorms roll in and cover the sky.

Telgar Boundaries:
Winter, -5 - 0 C | 23 - 32 F
Bitterly cold, with icy winds constantly flowing down from the mountains. Freezing rain is almost constant; the sky always a murky grey and the ground slippery with slushy refrozen ice. The days are extremely short, with the nights dropping a good number below the daily average. Icicles attached to Weyr ledges prove a major danger, and are checked upon every day, with anything bigger than a fist being removed.

Month 07, 740 AL

Fort Boundaries:
Summer 27 - 38 C | 80 - 100 F
Light breezes down from the mountains tot he North keep the temperature comfortable, even when the sun can bake an egg on the edge of a weyr. Sunburn is common.

Ista Boundaries:
Summer, 34 - 43 C | 93 - 110 F
A very dry, dusty heat. Little to no rain, causing more than some to worry about the drought not breaking and the rest of the Isle being at risk of fires. Many seek the depths of weyr, hold or hall during the midday and early afternoon heat.

Telgar Boundaries:
Summer, 26 - 35 C | 79 - 95 F
Muggy, sticky and generally just plain humid. Thunder storms are regular occurances, often happening in the early afternoon or evening, with heavy rainfall before drying off sometime in the night. Mornings are usually crisp, but warm up swiftly.

Month 04, 740 AL
North: Early Spring | South: Early Autumn
−1.9 C to 4.7 C | 20.0 C to 29.0

Spring has sprung, with the snow slowly melting in much of the North, creating mushy grounds and greyish, icy snow piles that are doing their best to melt. In comparison, Ista finds itself naturally warmer, (~10C / 50) and many people who can find rides are making their way to the Island to spend some time in warmth and sunshine, away from the lingering touch of winter.

Katila is beginning to cool down to more reasonable temperature, but is no less muggy and uncomfortable to those who are not used to the seasons. It is still a good place to escape to when seeking a warm day or a nice swim at the lake, though.

Winter has come slowly to the Northern lands of Pern, with more rain and cold winds than snow. As the month progresses, more and more snow will fall, with frequent blizzard-like storms towards the very end of the month. Telgar and Fort will in particular become burried under mountains of snow, while Ista is sunjected to frequent icy rainstorms, and heavy winds coming in from across the ocean.

Following the disastrous fires (sometime in around the 28th of Month 08), Ista Isle has found itself suddenly in the midst of constant rain; not enough to flood, but a steady, dreary downfall that seems to only take a time out for a couple of hours here and there, before coming back again. Its cast the entire sooty Isle into a sombre and depressed mood. Alongside the rain, the weather is muggy and while not hot, is not particularly cool, either.

The rest of Northern Pern is getting their usual weather, though they, too, have been called to action following the wildfires that savaged Ista. Many individuals who called Ista Island home have been relocated not just to Ista Weyr, Ista Hold or Sea Cliff Hold, but also to other areas of Pern, whether with family or friends.

17.4 to 25.5 C | 10.8 C to 23.2 C

Ista is still unseasonably warm - 37 to 45 C - has resulted in an incredibly dry summer, with little to no rain. This was climaxed by a dry thunderstorm, the results of which caused three fires to start across the Island on the 24.07.739 in the early morning hours. While the results of this are yet to be played out, the events will no doubt leave more than just the scarring of the land.

Ista is still unseasonably warm, with average weather being in the 37 to 45 C range, making it now a more than slightly undesirable escape for the rest of the Northern population from the more enjoyable early summer weather. There has been very little in the way of rain, though the coastal areas are no stranger to the salty wind. Ista's limited farmlands and fields are dry and dusty, with golden straw instead of grass where there is any growth at all.

Meanwhile, the rest of the Northern areas are still getting a lot of evening rain and the occasional thunderstorms, which cools down the populus and allows them to sleep easily without sweating their brains out like the Istans.

Month 11, 738 AL
North: Late Autumn | South: Late Spring

Autumn is coming to an end, with the days slowly becoming shorter still, with early nights and late mornings. The temperature is getting very cool, with jackets being more required, but it has yet to actually snow. Despite this, it is often raining and miserable.

The Southern contient is in full bloom, with flowers coming to life in the grasses and on the trees. The skies are bright blue with fluffy clouds, and occassional sunshowers bringing a dampness to the day. The nights are still crisp, but not cold. The ground is starting to dry up as water is absorbed by the blooming flora.

Month 10, 738 AL
North: Mid Autumn | South: Mid Spring

Autumn is in full tilt, with the leaves a shocking array of orange and red, and more of them on the ground than on the trees. The skies are often a clear and crisp blue, with a cool breeze flowing, shifting the leaves and sending them scattering. Rain is not common, but when it does roll in the skies are dark like night come early, and thunderstorms are not uncommon, though they don't last for long and the amount of rain that falls isn't too heavy.

Month 09, 738 AL
North: Start Autumn | South: Start Spring

Nothern regions are entering into Autumn, with the trees beginning to change to their reds and oranges, while the air is beginning to feel more crips. There are still more warm days than cool, and the nights are mostly warm enough for light bedding still. Rain has faded away and most days are clear and bright.

The Southern contient finds itself heading into spring, with rain and flowers vying for attention. The ground is often muddy and squishy, while the skies are either bright and blue, or overcast wtih fluffy clouds.

Month 08, 738 AL
North: End Summer | South: End Winter

Summer is winding to an end in the Northern hemisphere, with the weather slowly cooling and the trees beginning to turn their leaves. The days are still long and bright, but the sun is beginning to lose some of its strength.

The coastal Weyrs are falling victim to coastal storms, strong winds and heavy rains with thunder and lightening.

The more inbound Weyrs and Holds find themselves drier, not getting nearly as much rain or storms, they find themselves on the end of a long drought.

Month 07, 738 AL
North: Mid Summer | South: Mid Winter

Summer is in full spring in the Nothern hemisphere, with the bulk of each day being unbearbly hot, followed by vicious thunderstorms and heavy humidity in the evenings and at night.

The coastal areas are experiencing monsoon like weather, and spend a lot of their time locked away in Hold, Hall or Weyr.

The more inner locations find themselves faced with more dry heat during the day, and horrible humidity in the evening and at night while the thunderstorms rage.

Full Name:
Aederyn
Nicknames:
Ryn, (pronounced RIN) by those she is close with. Her younger foster sister called he Riri (REE-ree) briefly when they were young, and occasionally her family will still use the term. If anyone else should call her that, they risk personal injury. Recently picked up 'Red' from D'hys, though he's the only one who uses it.
Date of Birth:
02.09.720
Place of Birth:

Height:
5'8"
Hair Colour:
Red, jut past shoulders, curly
Build:
extremely fit and lean
General Description:
As befits a runner, Aederyn is thin and mostly leg in her general proportions. She’s muscled in the sinewy athletic manner of her craft, and was mercifully gifted with less bulk around the chest and hips/buttocks, giving her a flatter chest and slim figure, without undue emphasis on her femaleness. However her strength should not be judged on first appearances, as her figure is very well muscled and she is stronger than she looks.

Due to spending so much time outdoors, her face, shoulders, and arms sport freckles to the point of almost being solid in some places, but she is otherwise pale. Her jawline is sharp, matching her piercing gaze and angular build. Some might consider her pretty, most find her somewhat plain. She isn’t bothered by it much either way.

Her hair is a rich red-orange that falls in loose but thick, unruly curls when she wears it down. Usually she keeps it pulled into a plaited knot on the back of her head, or in a high ponytail off of her neck; great for keeping it out of the way when she runs, but has been wearing it half-up-half-down lately, in an effort to look less severe.

Her eyes are large, round, and such a dark blue they are often mistaken as brown at first glance, framed by thick but pale eyelashes that match her red hair.
General Dressing Style:
Trousers are Aederyn’s preferred style, as skirts and shorts often lead to uncomfortable chafing or getting tangled in excess fabric. A loose, oversized tunic provides freedom of movement, and a soft wherhide belt and ankle-high wherhide boots complete her look. A small, flatter belt pouch is always present, carrying emergency poultices in case of injury, a few small, low value marks, and a tiny blade, barely more than two inches long. She travels light, as she doesn’t want the excess weight holding her back. Though no longer an official Runner, she still always has an orange strip of cloth, the Runners’ sweatband, a trademark of the craft. Often used to tie hair out of the way, it can be used as a bandage or wrap in a pinch. If it’s not in Aederyn’s hair, it’s wrapped around her right wrist.

Personality
Likes:
Dancing and music: she adores the thrill of a lively dance at a Gather, and can sit and listen to music for hours, losing herself in the melodies, though this is about the only time she'll sit still

Physical activities: She loves to stay moving and isn't ever happy if she has to stay put for any extended period of time. She likes to keep fit, and running is her preferred method.

Fruit: Fruit didn’t travel well when a person was on foot, becoming bruised and soft by being bounced around in a pack, so it wasn’t something she typically ever had outside of eat-in meals during her career as a Runner. Despite having easier access now, the novelty of having it hasn't worn off and she'll eat a piece of fruit every chance she gets.
Strengths:
Decisive: she makes a decision and sticks by it unless given enough good, solid, sound reason to change her mind. She's not a wishy-washy type.

Determined: Like an endurance run, when she sets her mind on a goal, she'll make sure she achieves it. It might take her a while, but it will be something to steadily chip at until she gets there.
Dislikes:
Big crowds: Having grown up in Runner stations or out on the traces, big crowds were seldom something she was exposed to. She feels trapped and closed in, almost claustrophobic, and is generally a bit nervous until she can get to the edge of the crowd or away from it altogether.

frills/ruffles: whether talking of clothing, excessive decor, or conversation, she likes things to be straightforward and to the point. If something has superfluous, excessive additions, she is not a fan. She likes things simple.
Flaws:
Socially awkward: The theories and execution of politics and social conversation elude her, as they were never anything she was particularly exposed to growing up, nor did she have a desire to familiarize herself with them, anyhow. She tends to be either oblivious to social cues or far overanalyzing them.

Anxious: Along with her introverted tendencies, dislike of crowds, and at times social ineptness, she finds herself fighting more anxiety than she would like to admit.
Habits & Mannerisms:
Aederyn bites her fingernails, particularly if she is uncomfortable. She tries to limit herself to the last two on each hand, however if she’s particularly stressed even the ‘off-limits’ nails are fair game. She's also started to fidgeting, either bouncing a knee or drumming her fingers, due to not having as much of an outlet for her energy since she left the runnercraft.
General Personality:
Aederyn is tough and self-sufficient, quick to think and quicker on her feet. Having spent so much time running so long on the traces across Pern, she is perfectly fine being left alone with her thoughts, and in fact, prefers it. She is very much introverted in her tendencies, preferring to spend time alone or among a small group of her selected friends than among a large crowd. Oddly, despite her preference for small groups instead of crowds, she does enjoy Gathers, particularly the dancing. She loves to dance, and the livelier, the better!

She is opinionated and decisive. She takes things as they come and tries not to spend too much time thinking on a decision before making it. Though, as a thinker, if given enough valid and true information against her current opinion, her opinions can be changed. She is very straightforward, because she doesn’t know how to be anything else. The theories and execution of politics and social conversation elude her, as they were never anything she was particularly exposed to as she grew in her small family-run hold, nor did she have a desire to familiarize herself with them, anyhow. Due to the lack of social experience, she is a bit awkward and finds herself either oblivious to social cues or far overanalyzing them. This results in more anxiety than she would like to admit, and is a part of why she prefers to spend her spare time alone.

She finds it difficult to get close to people because she is unsure how to do so, or finds that she draws herself away when she feels she is connecting with someone. When she does manage to warm up to someone, she is a pleasant sort, grinning broadly and laughing easily. She loves music, but believes in her own mind that she can’t carry a tune to save her life. While she doesn’t have the voice of a firelizard, she does sing well enough to not be painful to listen to.

She keeps a cool head in chaotic situations, able to let her quick thinking and decisiveness rule and carry her through, though afterwards, when she is finally able to take in events, she has been known to fall apart, melting into a quivering puddle of Aederyn.

She is not prone to violence, preferring instead to respond to provocation with a quick, firm, and well-thought out word. If insulted or questioned because of her gender, she makes it a point of proving her worth by doing exactly what she was told she was poor at or incapable of doing because of her sex, and allowing the results to speak for themselves. Though if the situation calls for a well-placed fist, who is she to say otherwise…?

Mother: Nensi, b.695, d. N/A
Rank: holder, tender of runner station 298.
Siblings:
Older brother, Alekse, (AL-lex-ee), born 716. Journeyman runner.
Younger sister, Cairlyn (CARE-lin), born 722. Married to a holder.
Younger fosterling sister, Meri, (MER-ree) born 725, related as she is the daughter of Nensi’s sister. Apprenticed to learn station management in hopes of her marrying a runner to breed more runners, as she also has the lithe, lanky body type runners are known for.
Relationships:
Past Lovers/Partners: Several other runners in past/when younger
Current Lovers/Partners: N/A
Offspring:
Children: None living. One deceased in third month of pregnancy.
Secrets:
737/17 turns old: fell pregnant after behaving foolishly with a male runner who was taking her on a longer run near Fort Weyr, where a mating flight was taking place that they were unaware of. The two did fancy each other, but nothing more than admiring glances had come of it. Emotions under draconic influence being broadcast during the Flight, though, and her even more influenced by the excitement her brown Rudi picked up on, the two young runners found themselves together. Realizing they would both be in massive trouble if caught, they simply never spoke of the incident again, and he turned over her long training runs to ‘more capable’ runners. She found herself pregnant, and hid it for as long as she could. Considering she wasn’t at her home station very often, that wasn’t difficult to do. The pregnancy ended badly in the third month, and she fell ill and in pain on one of her night runs. Rudi had alerted his clutchmate, the one Impressed by Alekse, and Alekse and Meri had run to find her. She essentially birthed a boy on the trace, too small and frail and barely formed to survive outside of her body. Alekse carried her to the closest station, and Meri tended her there while she recovered for a sevenday. Meri told their parents that it was a female illness that would make it difficult for her to bear children when she marries, and as such, her parents have been hesitant to encourage a bond between her and any young men, allowing her to continue running instead. She continued to develop deep friendships with several young men, though, but cut them off before they grew into anything that could be considered a relationship. To clarify: only her brother and foster sister know she had been pregnant. Her parents and other sister only believed it to be a 'female illness', and still keep the issue to themselves.
Known:
720: Born
728/8 turns old: started running with her older brother on his training runs/very short legs to surrounding stations.
734/14 turns old: reached her full height and, after much effort on her and her brother’s part, was officially made a Runner Apprentice.
735/15 turns old: Attended a Hatching at Telgar. She was running with Alekse on her first Long run, and he had messages to deliver to the headwoman at the Weyr regarding the hatching, those in attendance, or something to that effect. The run brought them to the Weyr as the Hatching was starting, and they were lucky enough to find standing room in the Stands to watch.
7/36/16 turns old: Impressed brown firelizard Rudi. Her older brother Alekse had been on a run in the southwest part of Pern, all the way along the coasts of Nerat, and had apparently won two eggs in some sort of wager, gifting one to her.
737/17 turns: fell seriously ill while out on a run, took a week to recover enough to function and a good deal longer to recondition herself and to heal her mind from the ordeal.
738/18 turns old: Completed her first Crossing of Pern, having run legs from Tillek through Ruatha, up to Nabol, down and across to Igen, though Keroon, and all the way down to Nerat. She did it in less than five sevendays, too.
739/19 turns old: Made junior journeyman runner. This was a bittersweet promotion, as she knows she is unlikely to ever surpass this rank.
740/19 turns old: Attended her younger sister’s wedding celebration.
741/20 turns old: Searched by R'dal and Edath of Fort Weyr
742/21 turns old: Impresses green Jenath

Speciality:
the Runners' Lope: Aederyn had mastered how to run with long but efficient strides and amazing balance, allowing herself to run for unbelievable distances without wasting a ton of energy.
Strengths:
Aederyn was noted as one of the best runners for urgent messages, able to run very long distances without letup, getting messages to their destination before a tag-team of sprinters could.
Weaknesses:
Sprints. her endurance stride isn't the most powerful or the fastest. She can run off the mark quicker than non-runner-trained, but against fellow Runners, her speed tops out quickly and she tapers down a touch to her steady lope. While she may be able to outpace someone and keep going long after they had to stop for breath, short bursts of intense speed are not her strongest points.
Additional Information:
Aederyn is familiar with all of the basic teaching ballads and basic math. She is also a competent reader/writer. She found history a bit daunting outside of the ballads, and her mind tended to wander during those lessons. She preferred activities that exercised her thinking and problem solving abilities, and/or lessons that were pertinent to her immediate situation. She’s learned a good deal of emergency first aid tending to runners and herself, and can wrap a sprain or splint a break quickly and competently. She also is familiar with a few herbs that can do some good for minor injuries, but isn’t a healer by any stretch of the imagination.

Malvayth x Yanth at Fort Weyr on the 14.02.742 [Clutch Page] Name Inspiration: Gienah, Corvus constellation
Weyrlinghood
Everything is too long at first, her legs constantly get into her own way and her wings constantly bumping into things. She's gangly and takes some time to properly fill out and catch up to her limbs.
Jenath
Adulthood
Jenath grows into a well proportioned and elegant green. She moves very nimbly with an almost bouncy gait and is quite flexible. The borders between her emerald base hide, lemony belly, and her darker points become a bit broken and mottled.
Mindvoice
Jenath has a deeper feminine voice that frequently possesses a rumbling conspiratorial purr.
Personality
A social butterfly, Jenath loves to gossip and chat either directly or by eavesdropping in on her rider's conversations and providing her own commentary. She's an extrovert and loves to spend time with other dragons, either flirting with the handsome boys or lounging about and chatting with other greens.
Quirks
Quirks: Jenath likes to try to mimic sounds (especially birds or other animals), and is a very vocal dragon, even when she's not speaking. She enjoys trying to mimic the mannerisms and speech of others.

Likes:
Attention - Jenath loves attention and is willing to do a number of things to get it. She enjoys playing silly jokes or acting dramatic in order to feel like she's being shown the adoration she deserves.
Shiny things - She loves collecting little shiny baubles that catch her eye. Unfortunately she doesn't always understand that those shiny things might belong to other people.
Shows - Jenath loves to watch shows, whether it be Harpers performing on a stage or children playing out a game of pretend.

Dislikes:
Interruptions - Whether it's while she's talking or listening, Jenath hates interruptions. She needs to get to the end of the story (usually juicy gossip) after all. She especially hates hecklers who interrupt performances.
Quiet - There's something unsettling about silence, or when things are too quiet that all you can hear are sinister little sounds that could be anything.

Strengths:
Quick witted - Jenath is always quick with a reply, and is quite good at exchanges of banter.
Confident - She doesn't shy away from new experiences and feels that she has a firm grasp of her own abilities.

Flaws:
Gossipy - Jenath can't resist juicy gossip, and loves to feel like she knows all of the best secrets even if she has trouble keeping them. If she feels out of the loop she becomes moody and tries to bargain her way into getting in on the latest news.
Impatient - Jenath likes to rush into many things, and hates having to wait.
